Anyway, I have the playlist there and seem functional to use the dpad left and right to skip back and forward trough the different mp3s.
I was pondering to use the left and right to navigate the menu but seem a waste.

ok, the basic interface screens are there. Im begining to 'shape' a very basic playlist.
Basic commands:
up and down: browse the files
dpad button : add to the playlist
left and right: begin to play and browse the playlist
back button: should add files to the playlist AND begin to play at the same time (need to find some use balance for these keys)
tap on the 'colored checkered bars' to switch to each screen: browser/playlist/player/about.
Ill prbably move the volume bar somewhere else
each top bar should show:
browser: the file path for the files
playlist: the n lenght of the playlist
player: the number of the file actually playing (-1 to be fixed)
Everything is pretty buggy and crappy: Im updating the entire screen each time so it is everything pretty confuse and overlapped.
The onscreen player's commands should not work but the idea is to keep them always on the screen togheter with the song position stats.

Still too early to bore about bugs but I think there is enough to give a look and have an idea of where the thing is going and give something to comment about . Still Im not able to access to the F6 for the full screen button ( I have to google somewhere to find some piece of 'inspired code...)

well i looks good. but im not sure about the interface...

there is no real way to browse the playlist without skipping songs.

also, that the up, down and center dpad acts on the file interface while one is looking at the playlist or some other part is potentially bad interface design.

oh, and the playlist shows no data below the currently playing song.

the back button seems to work like the center dpad.

oh, and i have a dir of songs. but when i try to enter it to add from them, the player tries to add the whole dir as a single song. and then, when i try to play it, the player crashes.

im tempted to say that the interface should go something like this:

up and down key scrolls the currently focused interface tab.

left and right changes between tabs.

center dpad adds a song to the playlist if in dir tab, starts or stops playback in playlist.

or it may be that its all habit, i find the interface growing on me as i play with it right now.

oh, and im guessing you play to have the playlist jump to next song when the currently playing has ended? and maybe have the list, optionally, start over when completed. also optionally, random playback of the playlist.

yep, all nice points (and how will suppose to worsk ).
Every tab will have his own focus and will be able to browse and delete pllaylist items. The back button add the song to the playlist and begin to play (jumping at the end of the list). Sure the player should play in sequence and loop the playlist. Agree the dpad for browsing trough the tab seem pretty natural but I also love to fast skip trough the playlist whitout have to look at tablet and reserve the +/- hardware keys for volume.
WARNING;
The plane for this app (and like for all the other things I started) is to let the mind as free as possible and jump around every aspect of each projects for the daily hour I can usually dedicate to the tablet experiments. I wish this could be my job, or have a job that would let me dedicate more time to the hobby (damn, i would love to even have a real job at all!!), so dont aspect a complete application any time soon (and perfect like canola...) or organig grows of each functions... things can be really drastic and irrational sometime (fast browse the complete flipclock saga if you want an example...). Ill try to keep things interesting (fun?) for me and who will follow the thing, untill this will keep happen the app will move somehow somewhere.
happy meal

and if someone tries to add a song multiple times, maybe just jump to the song in the list and start playing it

hmm, now i got thinking about eyecandy. some kind of slide animation from left to right or maybe a flash of the playlist tab when a song is added to said list.

This looks pretty cool, I just installed it and I will let you know how it goes after a little bit of usage.

well verumero: thanks for try it but is far from be 'usable': by now I still feel like a way to experiments new interactions tricks. I make the debs just because after discovered pypackager is ubereasy to build them and to let people to test the player without too much headscratches.
Tso get the idea waste a bit of time to download and launch it and throw ideas in the bucket (and python developers suggest technics: not time to let other people touch the nasty random code)...
