I'm a computer technician, and i need to stay connected to my clients at all times. Ive tried smart phones such as the iphone 3g and the HTC touch pro, but they all lack some of the features i am looking for. I came upon the N810 about a month ago and i think it would fit in well, in my day to day life and would like to ask a few questions before i buy it:

1. can i use the bluetooth to connect it to my phone and make/receive calls and text messages?

2. Ive heard that the default web mail reader is crap. Is there an alternative or an improved version available?

3. In my line of work, i need quick access to the internet to google search computer problems at clients homes. How good would the n810 be for this kind of job?

4. finally, i need to read word documents sent to my email every once in a while, and pulling out my laptop is a hassle, is the n810 capable of opening .doc and .pdf?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. unsure. there is a program but i've never tried it.
2. the built in email was good enough for me using IMAP Gmail
3. if there is an available wi-fi connection quick googlings would work just fine.
4. .pdf, yes; any MS Office file, no

There is a program called phonelink that will let you sms from the tablet. Only problem is it seems that it doesn't work with every phone, so you might want to check for compatibility first.
you can make calls and receive them, but through your BT headset. phonelink will simply alert you and let you answer or dial, but you can't yet speak through the tablet. search these forums for phonelink.

The default email prog. is great i use it with my business email and personal email. But there are also other progs.

Google will work fine for what you need. browsing might not be as fast as a desktop, but fast enough.

and pdf AND word docs WILL work on the contrary of what arash said.
You can either use abiword which is still a little glitchy, or better yet install easy debian and you can have the full version of Open Office 2.4. I use it to view all my word docs, and school lectures.
there is also a docviewer that will let you view .doc files but not edit them i think, and i believe it will not show any graphics that might be in the word doc. I believe abi word also won't show graphics. Openoffice will.

thanks for the quick reply guys. I searched for phonelink but wasnt able to find much for my phone. Anyone know if i can pair my n810 with a Motorola w755(verizon)?

also ive read on a few sites that the meamo OS is pretty sluggish, and there are alternatives like android and other lightweight linux distros for the n810. Does anyone here use an alternative OS? if so how well does it perform?

appreciate all the help from you guys.

Maemo IMHO is still the fastest OS on the tablets, I have used KDE and qole's easy Debian. For faster webbrowsing I use Tear which renders pages almost as fast as my P4 laptop.
An N810 should suit your needs especially if you need a pocketable device but you might be better off with a cheap 8.9 inch netbook.

To quickly use Google you might install one of the alternative web browsers such as Tear. Or put certain settings off such as JavaScript.
