Hi!

I have a few newbie questions... Can someone help here please?

1-) I am thinking in buying a new N810. I just find out this "maemo" thing!
it looks great. It seams that just after I buy the N810, I just have to upgrade the firmware and then I can start installing these open source apps available at maemo.org, correct?

2-) I believe N810 is like a small computer with good wifi connection. So Can I access internet in my home through my wireless router as I do with my linux laptop? Is it just a normal configuration operation?

3-) I believe N810 is from year 2007. It already past 2 years... Do someone know if there is a newer version almost ready to go to the stores? How "new" this N810 is now in 2009?

Thanks everyone.

1) yes/no, and yes. You are not forced to upgrade if you don't want to... When you buy your tablet, you'll find some version of maemo on it. Just upgrade to the latest if you want to enjoy the latest free software... otherwise stick to the one you get, most of the applications will be available indeed.
2) yes, absolutely.
3) yes, there's a new hardware coming... sometime in 2009 - nobody knows except some Nokia manager, who won't tell. If you want some anticipations on the new tablet, search on these forums for rx-51 or rx-71.

3. The next tablet is going to be a lot more expensive than the N810 is now. You can wait if you want to, or you can get a tablet now for a very low price. I would go for the low price, myself.

I'm not an experienced, knowledgable N810 owner/user like the others here, but I would say in answer to your last question - get one. They are inexpensive now, I just got mine last month and it is AMAZING! I can't say enough .

The n900 is going to be faster, have 3g, and stuff... as said before there are threads on here about it.
But what do you want out of the tablet?
If you want to use it for taking notes, navigating, browsing the net, listening to music, youtube, skype, etc. the n810 is fine. I do that, and much much more on mine. And it works very well

How is the n810 on sites like hulu. Is it possible? If so, is it slow?

Hopefully someone here will address this also but hulu - and several other sites I like to access - requires Flash 10. The N810 has Flash 9. If there is a way to put Flash 10 onto Nate (my N810) then I hope to find it .

Hulu rejects the Flash plug-in on the tablets for being older than version 9.0.115.0, and even when that wasn't the case, the videos on Hulu are encoded at too high a bitrate for the existing tablets to handle. The next tablet may fare better, but that doesn't help in the here and now.
