Hi, all,

So, I'm coming back from an extended vacation from my 770. I would like to put together a wiki entry (to be kept updated) on 770 "best practices", but as I'm just getting back into this, I need your help.

It would start with basics, like, what is the "best" OS to use: 2006, 2007, or 2008, aka why use one over the other? What are the speed differences? What software can only be installed on some but not others?

Should we install on MMC? What kernel patches do we need or do we not need them with the current images?

And then, for each OS, what software works and how do we get it working?

So, only if you have a setup that you are happy with, I would appreciate you answering some of the questions below. If you have questions yourself specific to your setup, PLEASE DO NOT ASK THEM HERE--this is for people that already have things working. If you have topics that should be asked (like those above), feel free to post it. I'll help organize the feedback as we go along, but I do want to keep this thread from being about the details of getting, say, one piece of software working.

Thanks!

J.

Hello there!
Good to see someone has my ideas on this.
If you need some help or team members for a wiki project,do count me in!
I own two 770's,and going thru some kind of random infatuation with the device.
I've tinkered so much with these two 770's.
I posted some info on my blog here: http://my.opera.com/trin20t/blog/nok...-still-useable
and here: http://my.opera.com/trin20t/blog/mynokia-n770
As you can see in those post,I am still tinkering.
Next post will be about my bad and good experiences with the HE builds and even buying hassles on Ebay.
Here's my current setup on both. I have named one Sillverslab and the other is Greyslate.
There small and somewhat an extension of my eMac I named Snowman.
Yes,odd names but kinda make sense color-wise.

Silverslab and Greyslate Info:

Reflash: 5-15-09

OS: Maemo OS 2007 HE from the internal flash.

MMC used: 1 gig MMC Mobile from Kingston X 2 (1 each to the devices)

Performance: 8 of 10

I get zero white screens or loock ups.
WIFI is automatic with my home service or with the Lilypad Project WIFI hotspots in Cincy,Ohio.
Only gripe is hitting the power button shuts off the device with no options for Locking, ect.
I must push the side of the button slowly depressing it. All Bora packages work flawless as do all Gregale ones for OS 2006. No Skype, but it is possble with a hack found on Talk.Maemo. No Flash 9. Again it works with a patch from Talk.Maemo but it is unstable,so it is uninstalled. Minimo/Fennec package instaled excellently and it runs well. No crashes. I dated the Osso-Eal using Red-Pill mode. Also Microb-Eal. Took care of crashing Osso browser. One must be careful to disable the Bora repos BEFORE adding Gregale repos
.

Mods: Removed Meta-layer Crawler,Virtual RAM at 64MB.

The Latest . I refer to it as THEE ONLY 2007HE BUILD or THE PATCHED BUILD.
I also used only the latest 2006 build, which I still called crap in my blog posting.
It's just I always appear to be nearing WSOD mode when using that build.
1st 2006 build is fine shockingly,but dated.

Just fill in your product ID, confirm, and you will see the links to download the image files to your PC.

http://maemo.org/downloads/ is a central place to find links to both applications and OS files.

I just purchased the Palm 3245WW Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard on eBay for $40. It easily pairs with the Nokia N770 with the latest FIASCO, SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2008.7-1_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin, image.

Keyboard layout quirks:

1. The "?/" key is on the other side of the Shift key and the scroll up key is where the "?/" should be.

2. The "|\" key is not next to the backspace key but instead above the Enter key. It takes the space of the vertical part of the Enter key if it were a flipped "L".

3. The ESC key requires pressing Fn "~`".

4. Alt Gr key doesn't register special alternative graphics like Euro, Pound, Yen, etc.

Yeah i loved the arrow - shift - / mess gonna have to remap that if i ever get it to work again.

I got a new Palm 3245WW Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard i picked up for $15 on amazon. it worked
flawlessly on the 2006SE 49 build.
it works flawlessly on the 2008HE build too.
EDIT:
Just dont forget to hit 'ENTER' when entering the passkey from the btkb for the device to see it. i didnt have to do this in 2006SE, it just paired.
