The new version of Abiword for Maemo is a lot more stable than previous versions, but Abiword is not perfectly compatible with Microsoft Word. Many of my more complex Microsoft documents are mangled.
But Abiword loads a lot more quickly than OpenOffice, so it is much better for just opening documents that people send you as e-mail attachments or editing simple Word documents.

Since my last update of abiword it just starts to load and then crashes.

OO takes forever to load on my (old) 1.4 Mhz/256Mb desktop--i'd imagine it would take until next year to load on the NIT.
