1.you need a-gps-it must be setup properly

2.you need minigpsd-the latest version-setup as needed

3.you must never start the gps in a location where it cannot work

4.get emelfm2 and go to -var/lib//gps/nvd_data and delete the file-do this if it takes a long time to start

5.all this advice can be confirmed by posts on the forum

6. my gps used take at least 5 minutes -now it starts under 30 seconds

I have been suspecting this also. Haven't seen any discussion about it though so this might be just bogus feeling.

I noticed this some time ago when I started geocaching and used GPXView and maemo mapper more than before. If I forget to disable GPS from GPXView and maemo mapper before going back to inside, it took lot more time to get a lock next time I went outside. I can only speculate that for some reason when there is no GPS signal at all and you close GPS enabled software, tablet doesn't know which satellites to look even when A-GPS says that it's up to date. Is there a way to check what is starting position before GPS is started?

If I use tablet only for car navigation my lock time has been less than a minute. In that case I start wayfinders software when I'm outside and close it before I go back to inside.

Not sure about the actual cause, HW or SW, but I have that, too. Starting acquisition in the open for some reason results in a repeatably quicker fix then start in closed space, and then move out (starting timing from the moment the unit is outside, A-GPS and all other settings identical, of course). With outside (in car) start, A-GPS, I average a fix time of 47 seconds (yes, I actually wrote a timing script). With in-room start my average fix time is 98 sec (actually around 70, but occasionally not locking for 5-6 minutes which ruins the average). Without A-GPS, it's near-hopeless.

are you guys saying you used the aforementioned tips and still get these issue with timing or is it just all in which program you pick... i ask because i have a navigon: http://www.navigon.com/site/int/en/p...on/navigon2200 which worked great for me with a few extras that are very nice and for the price I paid it should be, but since i got staioned here in korea its been no good to me because the additional maps that you have to download are very expensive. so needless to say I'll be travleing a lot and i was just reading others input on the free maps i can download with my N810's gps funtionality, but now i'm just inquiring about what program works best.

thanks,

Does A-GPS require a cellphone?

A-GPS requires a network connection. If the only way to get network connection in a given situation is a cellphone (as opposed to WiFi, WiMax, etc), then yes.

I just loaded the "OpenStreet" map of Korea in Maemo Mapper. It shows detailed street level map.
