I've just tried it, and it really seems to work. I can run more applications at the same time with less slowdown or freezes.
HDD seems to fairly consistently outperform CompCache by a tiny margin on this machine. ..... both HDD swap and CompCache seem to give decent solid performance. Hence I would recommend that Pentium 500's use HDD swap if available

Posting here too since it is more on topic in this thread than in the other one.
I wonder if renicing mmcqd as mentioned here http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...070#post338070 would help with the freezes or help general performance when booting from SD/MMC and/or swapping to it.
compcache/ramzez looks interesting but I'd guess (without any testing) it may actually make things worse due to more CPU usage and less real RAM left to be available for applications. benchmarks on the site are for faster machines with more RAM, the lowest configuration I found is here http://code.google.com/p/compcache/w...ce/under500MHz and it is still twice the memory and faster CPU and the results are not so great
I guess I simply need to try it before judging :-)

init-part ok, but ramzez stumbles with a lot of dependency problems. Installing with --force-all does not help. insmoding of modules not successful (os2006 and he2007)
cat /proc/component_version
ongo bongo!
