The good part... I see Skype on the N900.

The bad part... it also will not use the forward facing camera.

My "little disappointed" letter to Skype will be written shortly.

I saw at the Skype-Homepage that it is possible to send files and texts (sms) with the new windows mobile version (3.0) of Skype.

How about the Maemo 5 version of Skype?

Not supported on the Maemo 5 version AFAIK. Here is a slide of the features of Skype for Maemo 5 straight from the horse's mouth.

Thanks for your info! I like these features on my PC (file transfer: fast and easy; sms: cheap, especially from abroad). So is there a chance that you can get these features on your N900 in the future? From community or directly from Nokia/Skype?

i was talking to mark douglas after his skype presentation at #maesum, and he said regarding the video feature, that up to this point, they've just been busy getting skype this far on the n900. so what comes to missing features, i would imagine they may be added later. no promise though.

and i can confirm: file transfer does not work at the moment.

Does anyone know if there has been any development on Skype SMS lately?

I currently pay around 25c per SMS in AU, where Skype charges 8.8c... I've been trying to get my friends using IM (msn, gtalk, facebook, skype etc), but most do not have a compatible handset.

Maybe I'm just a tight-***, but I currently use skype over 3g for phone calls and pay around 1/30-1/3 the standard rate (even lower when calling international numbers).

might have found a way but had no time to test it properly since im currently overseas and its late here, what u wanna do is go to ur call log, look for a cell phone number u dialed thru skype but that is not saved in ur address book, click it then click text message, it will then open a conversation window with the icon being skype in the text input field, try sending that person a text, lemme know if it works thnx
