This Paul dude seems to operate all Nokia chats related to the N900... or is it just a coincidence that all Nokia employees have the same name?

Anyway, can someone ask him some misleading questions? Like if the N900 will have Ovi Maps 4.0 out of the box, or if it'll have quad speakers?

As for the digital compass, it's not the first time I hear it is there. I can always cross my thumbs that it wasn't enabled by the software in the pre-production units, but still was there.

Done! I am joking- must be, since Fugazi and Jesus Lizard are my favorite bands Seriously.

Exactly, other people just need to take a minute or two and ask the right questions... see what you can dig up.

There can only be one...

Nokia's biggest and greatest piece of software ever is 'Paul' the customer service voice package, who is so completely clueless you mistake him for a real nokia customer service operator. 'Paul' will answer questions about software, hardware and shipping dates with random 'acceptable answers' thus ensuring that your customers always hear what they want to hear, and continue to place orders with you that you cannot fulfill for devices that will not do what you say.

Available with a range of accents to suit your chosen prejudice.

And while last-minute hardware changes/corrections are abhored in production, they often become necessary evils. As a former product designer and QA I've dealt with enough to turn hair grey. Some were even with Nokia.
On the USB host mode, depending on how the gates are set up, it could be possible if power through the USB's circuit is disabled as the host device.

I wonder if the design is standard? Some power bridges for these type of USB designs are two way (so you can power the source device).

I doubt the MB on this device was designed for two way- even when plugged in. That would mean a more robust capacitor and resistor bridge (bigger MB to support this).

Not again ?!

That chat text log looks suspiciously like a robot to me. I hate them, and always game them when I suspect that I'm not chatting with a human.

Also, has anyone actually opened up an N900 so that we can see what chip(sets) are in use in there?

It may be that a digital compass has always been in there, just not enabled in software.

I messed with the chat guy to see if he was a robot - I asked him to pay my mortgage, which confused him until I explained my purpose.

From Southpark: "They took our jobs!!!"

Do you think it is possible that they handed out the devices at the summit, but where already working on enabling / adding the compass and USB features for the final product?

@Jed so is he going to do it? pay your mortgage? let me know cause I might ask nokia as well. :P
