Hardware fault is of course a likely suspect in some cases, but doubtfully all.

Are you guys serious? The original poster is correct. Be honest with yourselves.

some of you have made the postings yourselves on this very forum. Are you saying that the 3 second reboot and the Nightly automatic reboots are all because you loaded crappy software on your systems?

Look at the Windows Mobiles and the Palms. The windows mobiles are bricks. As long as you don't run multiple apps at once they don't crash. The Palms are the opposite. They have excellent software but the hard ware causes problems. But nothing like what I've read on this forum.

You guys flash those n800s more than a flashlight.

Be honest. They are not stable.

My heavily used 770 doesn't crash. Despite what I read on ITT, it has a great calendar (GPE), email (sylpheed), spreadsheet (gnumeric) and 2 (two) ways of reading MSword. I update software with the same frequency as I do my MAC. It is more reliable than my ISP (one of Canadas largest.) I send thanks to the inspired folks at Nokia and the army of dedicated developers.

Happy customers are probably reading other sites.

With all you guys being so free and forthcoming with your combined wisdom and Software abilities, I think that I too should chime in my 2-cent worth.

I had a Nokia 770 since January 2006. I have updated it as and when necessary. I have installed beta Software modules, half tested Software modules, mis-programmed Software modules and latest, but not the least , the FM Radio deb available for the N800 (it does not / cannot work of course).

Honestly, so far (cross my black heart), I have had no issues with non stop boot loops, no WSODs, no battery meter going crazy issues, no battery not charging issues, no waking up screaming in the middle of the night issues.

I have installed, messed around and uninstalled Vi, becomeroot, Xterm themes, half-baked PIM programs, network connectivity files, Chat Modules, Weather Apps etc. I had even installed the most recent defunct Weather App. I had almost bashed the screen real hard when the IT bounced out of my hands a few months ago. No damage so far.

Even after all this my Nokia 770 has been much better to me than any Windows PDA and trust me I have or have had the opportunity to mess around with HP Ipaq, Dell Axim, Palm Tungsten and Life-Drive as well. None of them will ever come closer to the Nokia ITs by way of Resolution, Open Source, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. The ' Life Drive ' could not even connect to the AP that was right in front of it. The ' Axim ' could not do that either even though it had the latest Wi-Fi Hardware. The Ipaq was so very hard to use.

I think many of us simply expect the Nokia ITs to do a whole lot more than it already does.

My original issue was with the whole device locking up, not with individual programs crashing. Linux should not entirely lock up. Not never. Okay, maybe once per year. :-)

Some of the posters here have missed that, which is a very different issue to individual programs dying.

Any idea how to get my 770 to connect to a Netgear WGR614v6 wireless router without going local-link when the AP is 6 inches to 1 foot from it?

Check the following. It may help you solve your connectivity problems.

Also, the various ways to troubleshoot the connectivity issues between a Router and the Nokia 770 can be found on this very Forum. It is possible that you may have to update the Firmware of the Router and also figure out the correct Channel number on the Router that works with the Nokia 770.

Frankly, as much as I love osx and Linux, my Mac also crashes from time to time, my Linux PC also crashes from time to time, even my open source router freezes and needs to be rebooted once or twice a year.

The N800 crashes noticeably more often, but nothing serious IMO.
