My N810 works really well in almost all regards. It is a great device! The only thing I have ever done with it that didn't work out as planned was to install the screen rotate utility -- that caused an unexpected change in the way the power button works. Otherwise I have not altered it or customized it in any way except to use a few Extras such as Tear. My device is "stock" (i.e., unmodified).

However, I cannot play many video formats. I have mytube installed, but when it downloads a video, it will not play. When I open the .flv file directly, the media player tells me the format is unsupported. The same is true for iPod formatted videos (.mp4) and everything I have tried except mpg videos.

It seems everyone else can play almost any video format without doing anything special. In particular, I see others using mytube and mp4 files. My N810 won't play these.

Any suggestions?

As I understand it, Mplayer is the back-end for most media player applications for the tablets (means that most media player applications use it to play video, instead of having each application use some different method of playing video). Try installing Mplayer and see what happens. If you can't find Mplayer, try installing Canola or some other media player. I *think* they might pull Mplayer automatically, but I'm pretty unsure (I had Mplayer installed before anything else).

It would be nice if mYTube could be more helpful here if possible:

No, I have not. In fact, I was so ignorant that I thought the "media player" application that comes loaded on the tablet was mplayer. When I read posts here, I thought people mentioning mplayer were referring to this pre-installed app. Wow, I was confused.

Do I need to also install mplayer-plugin from Extras?

EDIT: mytube is working now. I didn't even have to change any settings. Just installed mplayer.

What is the mplayer-plugin from Extras needed for?

Great, I'm glad that worked out for you!

As the package description says, "mplayerplug-in is a MicroB browser plugin to allow playing embedded movies on web pages using mplayer." It also says that it works on Tear/Midori/Webkit.

I personally haven't tried it.
