I believe any such comparison will be favourable to Maemo; how long was it that Apple persisted in not having an SDK at all, and stubbornly denying people the right to control their own devices?

What else do you expect?!? The message that nokia has given has been very clear. It just has been burried under all the noncence and thousands of "N900 delayed" -posts.
As I said, it's not just about the date, so 'late october, then delayed to november' isn't worth very much. You say it's so that additional work could be done, but what work - where are the bugzilla entries for this? Where are the release candidate builds? That's what I expect from open community development - openness and engagement with the community.

Peter the only way to compensate for your crimes is to hand deliver everyone's N900 by the end of the week.

not to you maybe, but to me it is. and it has been accurate.

You say it's so that additional work could be done, but what work - where are the bugzilla entries for this?
on bugs.maemo.org - as usual. there have been many additional bugreports after the summit devices were handed out.

Where are the release candidate builds?
the maemo summit devices were basically what you'd call RC builds.

That's what I expect from open community development - openness and engagement with the community.
community engagement is a two way street. whining in the shipping delayed thread about the lack of a release date and calling peter names is NOT community engagement.

NSU doesn't seem to be responding at the moment.
Perhaps uploading N900's firmware?
