I'm sure it would be answered by the manual, but I wanted to order flash cards for my N800. I read the long thread about using 4GB >. Price seems right on the 4GB at the moment so I was going to get 2 of them. Am I right to think that the internal slot and external slot both use SD cards? This would be ideal since I already have a camera that uses SD.

Also, has someone already created a N800 FAQ with all of the quickly increasing amount of information from sites like this one?

Thanks,
SL

Both slots will accept SD/Mini-SD/Micro-SD/MMC/RS-MMC. SDHC cards will also work with a modified kernel.

Check www.maemo.org for a Wiki. Other FAQs may also exist elsewhere.

I agree, prices do seem right and they will probably continue to drop. I decided to get one 4GB SDHC card for speed and a slower 4GB SD card for storage.

I found a SDHC card roundup somewhere that tested the Kingston Class 2 as faster than the SanDisk Ultra II version:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2094711,00.asp

I picked up a more expensive 4GB SDHC Class 4 (Kingston) for $50 at Adorama.com. Now it's priced at $43 (but out of stock) while the Class 2 card is down to $35! Considering that $20 is the going rate for a 2GB card, this is looking like a sweet spot for cost/size.

My N800 will be in tomorrow and this week I will test out the speed difference between a standard SanDisk SD card and the Kingston SDHC Class 4 card (both 4GB).

The results will be interesting to see as I've got 4GB and 8GB SDHC Class 2 Transcend cards - please include your test scripts when you post the results.

I'm expecting the N800 to be the limiting factor and the Class 2 and Class 4 cards will be very similar in read/write performance, but hope to be pleasently surprised!

You might want to see this thread which has commands to measure the read & write performance.
