I dunno if im still thinking too old school, but I thought magnets screw up electronics?

The N800 leather case had a REALLY big magnet and it didn't effect the device in the least... I think Nokia has it sorted out.

Besides, most clam style, flip phones have a small magnet to tell the software the flip is open and to fire up the screen.

No, they screw up magnetic media (hard disks, floppy disks, tapes and so on) none of which are present in any Maemo device.
