OK, been working on the standalone application and I figure I need a name - "Sharing Dialog Example" just ain't gonna cut it. Any ideas, guys and gals?

On the plus side, as I have control over the application that is choosing the files to send, it means I can do this:

(My Details dialog hack is limited to sending one file at a time and, no, those are the tracks that come with the device. I wouldn't be caught dead listening to those tracks. Give me DSM any day of the week.)

(And "static void (*sharing_dialog_with_files) (osso_context_t *, GtkWindow *, GSList *)" for the curious among you.)

Its not the best name, but it should be used for some Maemo-related project at some point:

Petrovich (as we already have Modest and Mussorgsky)

I'd echo that. Fancy names may have history and meaning within the community. But for ordinary users, things are best named with something clean and descriptive. 'Blue-share' was going to be my suggestion. Ideally, things like this need to tell you what they do on the tin.

Edit: looking at it on the screen, I wonder if 'Blue-share' doesn't say p2p porn rather than Bluetooth sharing. Sharing-App is better!

Does the program only enable BT sharing or also sharing via email etc?
"Blue-share" sounds interesting, but you are right. It sounds a bit like p2p porn...And it wouldnt fit if the program enabled sharing via email?

Well, I finally went for "Petrovich". The reason being: It actually makes the application sound more exciting than it really is...

Yes, it allows the sharing of files via Bluetooth, E-mail, and a Sharing service supported by the N900 (Flickr, Ovi, Pixelpipe, etc.).

Anyway, it's in extras-devel. Promotion to -testing will happen when the maemo.org servers stop being such slow pieces of ****.

'Tis in Extras-testing, now. Please vote: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...petrovich/0.2/

To send a single file, just tap the file. To send multiple files; bring up the menu, press Share, select the files, and press Share again.

Some screenshots of this rather unexciting app:

Oh, thanks to Nokia; you should find most strings in the app localised.

P.S: The bug #5300 now has a bug open in Nokia's internal bugtracker, and looking at the strings of the File manager, I suspect Nokia plan on providing Sharing functionality in the File manager, itself. Maybe in a future firmware update.

Hey, great that you guys feel so passionate about this. We'll fix it. Not sure if the train has passed the next update, but it'll get there.

Hey, why not continue extending it to make it a complete file manager? Surely, it won't be worse than the builtin one...

While you are fixing it, could you also look at bug #5325?

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5325

That is for reenabling the ability to browse other [browseable] BT devices from the File Manager. This functionality is present in Chinook/Diablo, but is somehow gone from Fremantle.
