I've committed cbrPager 0.9.28, with the changes needed to make it run on Fremantle/n900. It will need to be tested to be promoted out of the extras testing.

Thanks Nathan - as soon as I get my device I'll have a play.

Nathan: I suggest you add unrar and unzip as dependencies to your project. They are small packages and need to be installed anyway, as most comics are cbr/cbz today.
This will save hordes of soon-to-come endusers the pain of search/installing them manually (here, unrar didn't even show up i nthe Application Manager...had to apt-get install unrar...)

Thanks!

Thanks. I must have already had unrar/unzip since I tested it in my scratchbox with both a .cbr and .cbz file. I'll add those dependancies and re-submit -- thanks for noticing.

I just posted .29 to the builders; it should finish and be available in the next hour or so. This version is being submitted for both Diablo and Fremantle.

I fixed a couple of bugs I found while testing. And added unrar as a dependency, so that the device will auto-pull it on install.

Nathan.

Thanks, will try that! One other suggestion: Could you change the default key bindings and some other default settings to make it easier to use on the N900?
  • Prefs>Keyboard: Right now left/right is going up/down, and up/down changes page... otherway round would be much more intuitive.
  • Prefs>Keyboard: Use SPACE to toggle fullscreen?
  • Prefs>Appearance>Scrollbars>Don't show when fullscreen?
  • Prefs>Behavior > Preload next page for faster browsing
  • Switch to full width view instead of fullpage view when opening
I believe these are quite small workitems that would greatly enhace the fun with cbrPager on the N900.

Regarding the linking of unrar as a dependancy - I've just noticed the below in the readme.
- No need to install unzip for 'cbz' archives. You still need
unrar for 'cbr' because it's non-free so I can't link it in
without violating the license.
Hopefully this won't be a problem?
Most of us here will be fairly happy installing unrar manually, but mainstream users might not be.

I've tried out cbrpager on my n900 and it's working very nicely.
Looks like the main work to do now is fremantlisation in terms of appearance of menus and settings, and the toolbar icons.

IANAL, but there is nothing in the unrar license that prevents your GPL code from using it. It's considered non-free because of the reverse-engineering clauses, but that's not an issue in your case.

Using cbr on N900 and really liking it. Only problem for me is coming from Comix I got very comfortable with using the volume up / down keys to navigate from page to page.

I see that I can set the volume keys to move the pages on the "settings" but when after saving the set-up; the keys defaults to the normal volume functions when running cbr.

I think it's a bug... Anybody able to successfully assign the page next / previous functions to the volume keys?

Thanks!
