Of course, we also did live video from his computer to my computer for free. Another advantage using Skype: Our last big earthquake hit near where I work. Cell phones went out. Got throght to my wife on Skype to let her know that I was OK. I always run Skype (minimized) on my N800.

well I've been stationed here in Korea for almost a year now using skype ( i pay for a call back number and my regional selection is for USA ) so I'm not sure what other type of plan/ package you or your friend may have but I pay 9.95 a month for world connection (every where you wanna go in the world is coverd) and 12.00 for an online number or call back number as I Called it. so if you do the math at 21.95 or lets round it at 22.00 dollars, it would seem you would be set if you are a traveler and do business a lot in different locations. Maybe thats worth it to you maybe not but in the long run it worked for me while here i korea and wanting to be able to communicate with my family in the states. I dnt think it's hit ppl yet how nice it is to have skype integrated into the N900 (app for N8x0's) even with out video calls its a blessing, although I personally cant wait to get video calling with it

I don't make a habit of going overseas, and wouldn't have a lot of use for it. Just it might be handy now and again - so the pre-pay option would be fine. If I can call home for 20p/minute instead of orange roaming at £silly/minute I shall be happy.

Jalladin, I am a test engineer for a large medical equipment manufacturer. But all of my traveling is pleasure related. Except for my trip to England (Fleetwood, near Blackpool) my wife and I love to drive throughout the US and Canada. This year, we stayed home on vacation to welcome the birth of our first grandchild, Samantha!

Do you have to have a phone # to use Skype?

And what is the difference between this and Google Voice.

No, you need an internet connected device with speakers or headphones and a microphone. I usually skype through my laptop with a headset. That means I can chat to people in my arm chair while still surfing.
