I'm trying to chmod +x on a perl file I've just written but it can never get execute permissions on it. Even when doing it as root.

Has anyone else experienced this yet?

where is your file?

MyDocs is FAT32 filesystem and it doesn't support permissions. It's probably mounted as noexec too.

What filesystem is it on? If it's on one of the vfat format spaces that will never work.

Well that would explain it. Thanks

Why on earth would they create the "MyDocs" filesystem as Fat32?? It's not removeable storage...I can understand it if it was a memory card you took out. But this is built-in storage. It should be ext3 just like everything else.

because windows and other random operating systens are more likely to understand fat32 than ext3 in usb mass-storage mode

Yeah! Why on earth do Windows users want to actually be able to see the N900 partition when connected via USB or Bluetooth to e.g. copy music! True that! :-P
