Nah. I won't count Maemo out. Reinvigorating Symbian is Nokia's okans for the near future. Symbian has a huge user base. It's a mature and well known product. Maemo on the other hand still hadn't fully matured into a consumer friendly product. Maemo is for the long term. Nokia has always just focused on development of one Maemo platform since the beginning. The N900 is the next logical milestone for Maemo. The new Hartman device coming in 2010 will be targeted for the mainstream consumer which is also the logical step after the N900. I think we'll start seeing more N series devices in different form factors in 2011 and beyond. I have no doubt well be seeing an Internet Tablet form factor then.

Edit:I left a very imporant word out off my first sentence. Even though the rest of the post explained what I really meant.

Networks drop packets. I drops words when posting.

Erm, pretty sure that graph represents what Nokia HOPES will occur by 2011, that Maemo will get more popular. Look at the first graph, it doesn't even exist. They're HOPING there will be a bigger slice of the Maemo pie by 2011.

I think we're all pretty well aware of what the word 'Forecast' means

To me, this type of comparison is another sign that we won't ever see another NIT. The N770,N800,N810 were to prototype the 'smart' in the smart-phone concept and how community development could be a cheap model. In the future Maemo will most likely only exist on smartphones with screensizes primarily designed to support the phone-side (read: smaller) over the tablet-side (read N810-size, 5 inches, 7 inches etc).

I really do wish Nokia good luck with this effort but it also means that I won't be looking at Nokia in the future for tablet products.

I would love something like my SmartQ7 with Nokia's build quality running Maemo (actually I'm using it right now typing this and a 7 inch tablet is indeed sweeet).
I think the best of both worlds is a N900 sized device that can doc in a large frame that just provides power and a larger touch screen. If the N900 had a HDMI out and USB host (on the same size) we would be there already.

The 1661 and 2605 are still available in the US. Most of the rest are S40.

Like others here, I read the graphs as positive for Maemo. Nokia has stated that Symbian is their iPhone killer and Maemo is for phones with computers that raise the stakes further. If Maemo can actually achieve that much of a chunk of the world's leading phone producer's market, it will be a roaring success.

So I'm a sexist. I refuse to believe that any woman would be crazy enough to own both an N800 and an N810.
