its possible that initial sync ignores certificate as normally your exchange website has to send that to you on first pass. Subsequent passes it would expect the cert to be in place. It would do no harm to install the cert

I have now copied the certificate of the webmail site (https://webmail.hpuss.de/owa) to N900 Documents folder. How is the certificate installed in N900?

I visited the site in N900 browser. It didn't recognize the certficate but allowed to add it as an exception. As a result, I can visit the webmail site through N900 browser, but MfE does not use the certificate. Has MfE got some separate certificate store?

On mail settings you may define when sync is made. By default it is made only when WLAN is available. Just change it to any connection.

webmail site will not do it. You will have a specific site for your exchange server. You can get the url to this off the device you are currently using.

you use the file browser on n900 to look at the cert, and it should give you option to install. Once installed you can check that it is there under the control panel certificate application

This is too strict in saying. Many organisations run their MfE over the same server that hosts OWA (Outlook Web Access, the "Exchange Webmail")

OK, thans for your quick advice. I used Windows XP & IE7 to export the certificate in .P7B file format including all certificates in the certication path if possible (that was the only way that N900 showed the "Install" button. It seems that Root certificate is Verisign Class 3 Primary is already in N900, but not the 2nd certificate Verising Class 3 Secure Server or the 3rd which is the actual sercer certificate). I selected the type of certificate as "Server". However, MfE is still produces the same error

You are right. To re-phrase the question, is the OWA server the one indicated in your current device?

At least in my case Outlook Web Access (OWA) server and the server specified in Mail for Exchange settings is the same server.
