I think you should (if you haven't already) condition the battery. I know some will say you don't have to with Lithium Ion batteries. But in my experience with the N900, after fully charging and fully discharging several times, my battery life has extended. I think what drains the battery a lot depends on what you do with it. Simple websurfing over the cellular network (for me Tmobile USA) takes up little battery juice. Example, surfing websites like reading sports, news, etc. Even sending SMS and a little phone conversations, and a few pics are fine.

But once you go to websites like Youtube and watch videos, the battery starts to drain significantly. Or playing videos in your library.

Are you using your N900 on Youtube a lot or playing videos in your library?

I have had mine for a week and I cant get more than 6-7 hours and I have turned off wifi, bluetooth, email checking etc. I mean, the point of this phone is to have all that. I shouldnt have to turn it all off to conserve battery then turn it all on for a quick second and then turn it off to conserve battery...silly.

I am putting mine on Craigslist and going back to my E71.

If they are going to produce a mobile computer then add a battery to support it. I do not think an OTA update is going to suddenly make it better...
Ya Im kinda annoyed too, but there are others with much better battery life so that makes me think its some factor causing the issue not that the phone just has bad battery life.
An OTA could fix it if it is an issue with some processes running constantly in the background that could be causing the battery to die, or it is stuck trying to connect to the network in a weird way and that could be draining the battery too. Both could be fixed if an OTA took these things into account.

So eh I agree that it is messed up, but I truly love the phone minus this HUGE issue, so hoping we can come up with a solution together or Nokia/Maemo can handle it with an OTA.

Eh, I dont see the optimizing of the battery as something that will increase my battery life x4, but Im sure it will help a tad.
There is something wrong with our phones guys, and its not that we didnt charge the battery properly or need to wait lol

No not at all this for this charge and it literally just told me to plug it in (from 3pm EST to 830pm EST).
So can you browse the web for how many hours on a single charge using 3G? Looking for a comparison.

And again with the conditioning and proper charging lol I understand the need for these things but they will never make my battery last 4x what it is lasting now lol I might gain 30 minutes but not the several hours I need for this to be a functional device, ya know?

What does so much better mean? For a comparison for the rest of us.
On 3G how many hours can you surf the internet before you phone is dead (not consistently but I mean how many hours did you surf during you last battery cycle)?
And how much did that change from 3rd charge to 5th?

exactly
not silly, but simply ******ED.

whats the point of having an all in one, when you can only use one function if you want half-decent battery life. I hate to say it, but certain competitors offer phones that have much BETTER battery life, without having to take that extra mile like getting a new sim card. These competitors also offer phones where you can actually use the widgets without it being a concern on battery life.

Honestly, as much as you guys say N900 provides more potential or functionality, it's all a moot point if you cant even use it all without having you're battery die on you less than half way through your day.

it's sort of like making a car engine with 2000 HP but not having the proper transmission, tires, brakes and car frame to support it. Basically paying extra money for...nothing...

I wonder for the ppl who reportedly gets 1-2 full days worth of battery life, how they are using it.

Maybe someone can start a thread or a log of ppl's battery life results while keeping track of each person's location, what cell provider, are they on 2G, 2.5G,3G, 3.5G, how old their SIM card, hours of surfing, youtubing, playing games or videos or music, wifi on/off, GPS on/off, display brightness level setting, vibrate on/off, widgets used, sms and calling usage, etc. Using these statistics, hopefully we can come to some conclusion and bring these findings to Nokia/Maemo for them to address.

One thing I found was that if you signed in to many accounts plugins like MSN + Yahoo + Skype + Gtalk + SIP etc. it drains the battery quick.

How many accounts plugins (haze etc.) do you have signed in?

I had the 5 mentioned above, my battery was draining quick, full charge only lasted 8 hours on medium use.

Since I disabled the accounts plugins except SIP when not needed, a full charge can last me a good 20+ hours now on medium usage.

I think the account plugins is the main cause.

I agree, we shouldn't have to turn off the key features of the phone to get it to have some battery life, absolutely dumb lol but its NOT all N900s so this is a glitch (which is an issue on its own that they didnt get this fixed before they started to ship but thats for another time), something that is not effecting everyone so we cant get mad that the phone was designed bad and just has a bad battery, other phones are better and close the book.
This is a reinvention of an OS and it was DEFINITELY rushed out so some glitches are understandable especially since the phone is still very hard to get a hold of still. But this is a big one...

All I care about at this point is getting it fixed
The thing is that Nokia/Maemo needs to fix it ASAP.

That is what Im talking about! Lets take this into our own open source hands and get it resolved lol
Is there an app or something that we can run on the phone or a standardized test to see how long it lasts under the same circumstances?
