You're using Main [edit: and High] profile H.264 - as far as I know, only baseline profile is supported on the N900.

In case I want to convert High Definition movies and TV Shows (let's say 1080p or 720p) to the best compatible format/quality for the N900... which are the best specifications, audio/video codecs, resolution, bitrate?

As close as possible to the native resolution of N900, MPEG-4 encoding (as it's not as demanding on the processor when decoding)

What are you using to convert the video? I've tried Super, but my computer doesn't like it and crashes a lot.

following this thread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32935
the user made startup videos for the N900 that run perfectly.

Using the Gspot app for windows it says:
Video
codec = xvid (H.264 or MPEG-4)
resolution = 800x480
Bitrate = 1447kb/s
FPS = 25
Qf (i dont know what that is) = 0.151 bits/pixel

Audio
Mpeg-1 Layer 3 (MP3)
Bitrate = 128kb/s @ 48KHz

Hope this helps

Edit: the stats for the preloaded video trailer "9" is:
Video
codec: MPEG4
resolution 800x480
FPS23.98fps
Audio:
AAC 44100Hz stereo 1411Kbps

Unfortunately i cant see what the Video bitrate is

I use Mediacoder and have quite some decent results with these settings ...

... but I don't know how much I can push N900 to the limits and what parameters are best in order to watch unjerky videos and hear good sound.
