Ah, mine doesnt light up at all, however. I think i will try RD mode to see if the keyboard light does work or if the ALS is just busted.

I noticed that the keyboard was not lit up last night. I closed it and reopened then the keyboard lit up.

Also I have notices that I have to plug the power cord in, unplug it and then plug it back in to get it to charge sometimes.

I was having the same problem. Try taking the battery out and putting it back. That worked for me.

Anyone with an N810 will sympathise with you on this. This is something I have seen on occasion on almost every similar device regardless of make. seems to be a timing issue as not easy to reproduce.

There are a number of posts regarding the USB charging. This is often due to usb standard. Try plugging in slower so that Power pins get a chance to register before data pins are connected.

Are you actually having a problem typing in the dark?

I understood that n900's keyboard backlight is light sensitive (to save that battery) and it will only light up if you need it. Don't declare it 'not working' till you've actually tried it in the dark.

My N900 backlit keyboard and LED indicator light stopped working this evening too. I dont get a light when I charge or get an SMS.

Have tried reboot, charging, playing with the USB charger plug. When I remove the charger the LED seems to flicker barely but no keyboard light no mater what. I can cover the ALS and get the screen to dim too. Weird.

UPDATE:

I removed the battery and put it back in and that seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks garamsauce3.

I'm sure some of you are having legitimate problems but the N900 keyboard lights up depending on the lighting conditions i.e. in brighter environments the keyboard may not light up but should definitely light up in the dark.

I thought my N900 was faulty like this but a quick test under my duvet with a torch showed that, like TooMuchMoney says, my "problems" were actually the light sensor switching it on and off! Try it yourself!

My keyboard lights up in the dark when I slide it out but has a timeout which means it goes dark again if unused for a few minutes. Is there a setting anywhere to keep this on?
