There was a thread with a title like this that got combined into a thread called "Is it time to re-structure talk.maemo.org?"

More important, there is talk of making changes to Talk.Maemo.Org that would make it easier to have a sort of "forum within the forum" for those who are still interested primarily in N8x0 or 770 or Diablo. At least, I hope, it will make it easier to find New Posts that are relevant to the N8x0 devices without having to wade through a ton of irrelevant posts.

And that talk has given birth to this Brainstorm called "Proposed Talk forum redesign for 2010" and a thread accompanying the Brainstorm called the "Proposed Talk forum redesign for 2010" thread

If you have any concern about keeping maemo.org viable for N8x0 users, please visit those links and vote on (or add!) solutions in the Brainstorm. (To do so, it looks like you'll have to use a maemo.org log-in, not just your regular talk.maemo.org log-in.) (Also, note that the problem needs 10 votes before the solutions can even get voted for. So you might want to vote "for the problem" now and go back later to vote for solutions you like.)

I've started this thread because I think there are people who are concerned about the fate of the N8x0 devices on this forum and wouldn't have realized that the relevant threads had names about "re-structuring" generally, instead of about the need for a new forum for N8x0 or some other way to salvage this forum for those pre-N900 devices.

thank you for your work on this, gerald. i like the filter idea. wish i could vote on it, but maemo.org is beyond me. i hold a m.a. from columbia u., but i'm just not intelligent enough to navigate maemo.org's log - in security. my credit card and bank websites have less stringent log - in procedures! after wasting hours on it i've given up. i'm very intrigued by the fact, however, that it's designed to not work in the tablets browser. there's definitly a quirky sense of humor at work here!

I'm the same. Wanted to vote. Gave up.

I think people are having problems with the Brainstorm login, which is separate from the forum login. You need a Maemo Garage account to vote in brainstorm.

The irony (maybe) here is that there is a brainstorm from early 2009 to combine these logins. I searched for it earlier when I attempted to vote (and finally managed) and I couldn't find anything up to date on its progress.

Looking at sprint logs (November and December primarily, might well be stuff earlier on as well) in the wiki, it seems that the back-end for a single sign-on is coming into place, at least.

While I think that the site could use a restructuring along OS specific lines (Solution 4), in the short term I think that removing restrictions on the Advanced Search screen (to allow a search without a keyword but with the other, existing filters on the screen) would do much to relieve my heartburn. (Solution 5)

I wouldn't hold out much hope for tags. If you provided a list with checkboxes where the smilies list now shows up, you might find more people using it but many people don't bother and without a list of possible tags the variation in tags makes searching on them no more useful than searching on the title or text.

To me, the current situation is N900 or the rest. I think a filter or classification like this should work better.

Thanks, bun!

(And the most important Solution to support for that outcome is Solution #1 in the Brainstorm!)
