My point is that I like all in one devices and there was a time when I would have also considered gaming on a mobile device. High quality gaming opens the gates to a whole new segment of customers.

I'd be willing to bet that nobody in this group would want Electronic Arts or Capcom to develop games for the N900 because:
  • The games will not be open source
  • The kind of games that are celebrated are more like FreeCiv, not Madden 2010
  • Games are not high up on the list of what people have asked for
  • There are no real tools to bring games to the platform quickly
  • Nokia hasn't made the platform enticing enough yet
And I'd love it. But it just want happen. That's my opinion/prediction.

I don't agree with points 2 and 3. You're only having us in mind, but there's plenty of people out there that would buy the device if it had games with the graphics of bounce.

Dunno about you guys but I can't play FreeCiv everything is simply too small and after a short while I can't focus anymore. Maybe with a magnifying glass...

Would it be possible to mod it somehow but without making it all pixelized like open TTD?

If games were high up on the list, then they would not have either killed NGage without porting those games over first or they would have actively sought out publishing companies that make games... as well as get tools that are popular now to also include their platform as well.

Neither has happened yet.

The two biggest points that people seem to havemissed here are DRM and that Maemo 5 is not intended as mainstream.

Lack of DRM or other suitable copy protection mechanism means it unlikely that commercial games will appear. I believe you will find that is addressed in Maemo 6.

Nokia has always maintained that the N900 is step 4 of 5 and intended to appeal to technology enthusiasts & earl adopters. Despite what you might feel, market research tends to show these kinds of people unlikely to be the type to spend out on expensive commercial offerings.

theres 100's of mobile devices with no DRM technology but it dont stop the big publishers selling games for them devices, if they was worried about DRM they would of stopped developing J2ME games ages ago.
