HRZ, I'm using N900 with pidgin to connect QQ and it works currently outside China. Try changing protocol.

are you using QQ2009 normally? i tried all 3 protocols in pidgin but nothing connects. 这么麻烦.

You mean QQ2009 on desktop? yes it works too. On N900 I only use pidgin.

yea exactly. I use QQ2009 and have tried all sorts of settings in pidgin...still nothing....is yours (on desktop) in English?
The only explanation it wont connect in Pidgin is because it's in English OR because China Unicom is blocking me from connecting somehow.

go to the a/c setting, and change the qq2005 to qq2008...

OK, it finally connected and I saw my buddy list for about 10 seconds before it got disconnected. It then said in Chinese something about ID theft measurement and it disconnected me. then it gave me 2 choices, modify account or reenable. I clicked reenable and it gave me one of those QQ captcha images to verify that it was a person. I put it in and still couldnt reconnect. then i tried to sign in on my desktop and it said that i had to change my password to activate my account since some suspicious activity had been detected. it appears that China Unicom and QQ have some kind of agreement where users can not connect unless they're using QQ's proprietary mobile software???

hello HRZ, actually i have the same problem with QQ . When i try to login with pidgin it almost never make it and if it some times does i can stay online like 5 min before it disconnects me. By the way my official QQ program also tells me like some "bad guy" was trying to use QQ with my accout, and thats annoying cause every time it tells me that i must change my password.

I just hope that n900 will become popular in China and that way we will get an official QQ program for maemo 5.

恩！ I really hope Nokia brings it here but I'm still not sure. My students are telling me that it will eventually come but we'll see. In the meantime, I guess we'll have to wait for a developer to work on a QQ port to Maemo. loving this device! where did you get yours? import?

There is no agreement between China Unicom and Tencent don't speculate like that. If you actually used pidgin on the desktop to connect QQ you would know it has the same problems. What you need to do is when you get disconnected is to REACTIVATE your account. Go to the link your IM program gives you; login with your QQ details. When it asks to change your pw click skip. While you're on that Safety page, you might as well apply for a higher security level by providing more information. e.g. choosing secret questions; filling in an old friend's QQ no.; maybe even register your mobile no. Also apply for a secret password matrix card. Fill as much as you can. You'll probably increase your chance of staying connected. Once you get those capchas its ovwr cause those are useless with pidgin.
