Hi All,
I use my N900 as a music device when driving in my car (i have it connected to my car stereo)

I have noticed that if i receive a message while the media player is open the message appears in a bubble for about 4 seconds then dissapears so if i miss the message time frame of 4 seconds I then have to do a few presses to get to the message application to view the message which is not feasable whilst driving so i cant view the message until i've stopped at some lights or something.
What used to happen with my N95 8GB (which i also used the media player in the same way) was a notification would appear saying '1 message received) then it was a swift 1 button press and i could scan the message to ensure it wasn't an urgent message

Is there any way to set it so the message stays on screen until i touch the screen or increase the number of seconds it stays on screen for (60 seconds would give me ample time to scan the message contents or press the bubble text which would open up messages app)
or
would it need someone to create an add on app
or
would it be something worth doing a bug report (as an enhancement) for ..... doyou think it would get attention?

Cheers all

I support this too ... it would be helpful for the message bubble to hang-in there on-screen for some more time ...

Yes, that's a highly recommended widget if you don't want to miss messages.

The media player keeps being open and running - it's a multitasking machine ;-) It's just that the screen gets smaller so that the messages can be displayed alongside.
I strongly encourage everybody to try camkeyd - it has become indispensable for me.

If you get two missed calls in a row, you'll miss the notification for the first one unless you use the desktop widget. It's really useful.

Heh i know and I tought that no one would say that but there you are :P As we both now the media player is much easier to control when its fully open. Desktop widget for media player does some things but off course not all what you can do in media players window. Its all about how many taps you have to make and even one extra is too much.

I would recomend right now shortcutd (from extras-devel *warning Install just that do not install updates from there if you just want to try that application) because the camkeyd is broken on some people with new firmware.

.edit
FYI
Widget is bit broken doesnt work all the time:

Fixed in pr 1.2

Hi imation, i have the app installed but what i am saying is i want to be able to see and read the message via 1 press while media player is running in full screen mode (reason why i run media player in full screen mode while driving is so that when i pull up at some lights if i fancy a different album to be playing i can quickly change)

its not about me missing messages, it's about being able to view the message with 1 press while media player is in full screen mode.

again imation this would require 2 presses, cam key then message preview (which is no different to pressing the corner on the screen to get task manager, then the message preview window)

its not about media player closing down, its about having to do 2 presses to view a new message

What I am basically saying is that on ALL previous phones i have had if i receive a message it stays on screen until i choose to read it or hide it. the N900 makes this decision for you and hides it after 4 seconds and then wants you to do 2 presses to view that message. I know all that people say about "its a computer before a phone blah blah blah but the beautiful thing about the N900 is things like this can be corrected via firmware updates.

I have created an enhancement request on bugzilla .... would be good if it got a few votes from anyone who has the same issue https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7895
