This inability to delete imported text messages may effect the backup app .
I know my backup started giving "backup error" message after I imported.

Anyone with imported messages try backing up after?

Interesting blog post about moving smses from iPhone to N900 using this approach outlined in this thread plus a perl script:

I added matrim's uuid bit to gagravarr's patched code and it seems to import even large linked messages with no problems and I can delete and forward any message I want...

Just imported a few thousand text messages on a vanilla n900, all is okay. I've attached the source and the compiled binary.

edit: the conversations app is dying on me on some individual messages though... I'm blaming this mainly on the special characters in the .csv file, probably nothing to do with the importer.

Which messages is it dying on? The imported messages or the native N900 ones?

Was doing this on a vanilla n900 with a freshly flashed emmc and firmware, so all messages were imported. It was crashing when I scrolled a few dozen messages back in the conversation view and encountered a message that probably had something in it that the app couldn't handle.

Probably some special chars. Or then I butchered my .csv file. I also have this behaviour with the other versions of the smsimporter, btw. I could have tracked it down to the exact messages that caused the app to crash, but in the end couldn't be bothered and thought I'd just wait for a decent importing app, since there are apparently some people already working on it.

page 9 in this thread

i was mainly referring to corsac's posts about him writing his own version and hoping the different versions could be combined as one app... i at least interpreted that as "something better's coming soon"

Unfortunately it's not working for me. I run the program (with a one line csv test file) and don't get any error messages. Still the conversations don't show any messages.

Edit: It worked when I executed the program as user and not root!

Used ziller's binary from #104. Imported approx 550 messages but many truncated mid sentence on N900. Looking at output as the import proceeds, the import didn't insert the correct data into the database. No apparent pattern to it - checked for delimiter used mid-string etc. Weird. Going to try message-by-message and see what that does...
