sorry for the n900bness of the question, but basic goog searches show that the n9 uses composite output vs component, plus plug colors would suggest that as well. My component slots are used up and hard to reach, so didn't experiment. Didnt see much in the manual.

But after plugging into composite on the tv, I don't see any output using the provided nokia cable.

Is there a button/key-combo that I need to press for video redirection? I assume that the display on the n9 can be on at the same time as tv out?

Any special tv settings needed?

tv and n9 are ntsc; latest 51 firmware.

thanks...

well, to post to myself, after a reboot(?), the video appears to work fine using composite input on tv. Picture rendering quality isn't amazing but given the resolution, that's what it is...plus how many devices that are the size of a cell phone, and indeed can be a cell phone, output to a tv? Movie playing doesnt look that bad!

Also, if playing a movie, the slider switch on the side can be used to turn off the n900's screen, and the movie on the tv continues to play (nice!), but if in normal mode, when the n9's display goes blank, so does its tv output.

love this thing....

Yes its composite + let & right audio

I have only used it once and had trouble getting it to work also, I was trying to use the snes emulator on the TV and it would not send a signal, the remedy for me was to exit the emulator and just go to the N900 desktop, I think it must send the signal to connect at some point and from there I was able to start the emulator and have it on screen.

So same goes for anything else like a movie, if you started the movie first, I would exit out of any applications and start the TV connection on the desktop.

The device isn't simply cloned to TV, but uses a dual output.

For example, when on TV output, overlay is rendered differently - the controls don't appear on the TV - only the video (when playing, touch the screen. The next, previous, pause, volume are N900-only).

Most likely this dual render mode isn't enabled when playing with no TV attached.

Not all monitors are created equal...I'm fine with my PQ:

HTC Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2, et al, have TV Out.
