I enabled extra devel so I can download things like mplayer and mediabox media center... these things were not shown in app manager before but are now. I really don't wish to remove extras devel.

It won't let me remove Ruby though for reasons I gave in my last message... what a pain!

gohan - your determination to cram your phone full of apps before their even out of development will be your undoing. Then again maybe I'm wrong and you're going to become a guru in matter of weeks. Either way I'll be watching your posts with baited breath.

With extra devels disabled, mplayer and mediabox media center cannot receive updates... is this correct?
If I enable extras devel again, just ignore the Ruby update? I know this interferes with iplayer. I know extras devel shows me programs in beta but this is fine, all I'm getting is a few media apps and utilities, I did this with the n810 for over a year and didn't run into any trouble.

I've seen proxy servers cause this sort of problem with downloads before. Is there a proxy server between you and the Internet? It might even be a "transparent proxy" if you're on one of the ISPs that has a nanny-state approach to networking...

If you think installing two media players is "craming a phone" then wow....I've owned the n810 for over a year and recently sold it so I can buy the n900. I want my n900 to be setup simillar to the n810 and since I cannot view most of my video files with the default media player, this is why I downloaded two media players that I know and trust...Is this wrong?

I hardly understand anything that I am doing but I am enjoying having a go and appreciate everyone taking the time to help people out.
I have never used linux before or had any experience of it, so this is all really new to me.
But I thnk the boards are great and have found out so much about my n900 that there is no way I would have found anywhere else.
Cheers guys
