I expected better from Tom's Hardware... "Wow it has 1GHz processor. We don't know anything about it but we're sure it is veery powerful."

How many of these comments are basically echoes of comments made when the iPod Touch was introduced?

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=9537

While it's not for me (although I might buy it just to get the data plan), this is why Apple changes markets and Nokia doesn't. Apple has realized that people want evolution as much as they want revolution. They sell "you can do all you used to do and more" not "you can do new things but some of the things you would expect to do don't work at the moment but we are working to fix some of them and other developers might fix some of them and besides we have a new OS coming out later this year although it may not run on the product you already own".

If Nokia doesn't get their usability act together, their hardware capabilities will not keep them on top.

Stupid name!!! iPad OMG I can just imagine the 50+ people focus group who were hired to think of a name for this thing, they probably spent most of their time playing the Star Trek Online Beta for a crappy name like iPad to be decided on..

Plus,,

I looks horrible, the fake mock up images looked much better

Its a shame because I was going to get this, but not anymore

Tut Tut apple Tut Tut

It somewhat surprises me that Apple didn't learn from Microsoft's mistakes. But it will sell well, because it has an apple printed on it.

What I am frustrated by is the out of the box experience - email could/should be better by now, RSS is a very useful app but the out of the box version hasn't been updated since it was first released in 2005. I'm frustrated because I just can't see Apple doing to it's customers what Nokia does to us.

You buy an Apple device and, out of the box it will work and it will work very well. N900? Yeah, it works, kinda. If you're lucky you might be able to download a third party app to replace the built-in apps, as they're a bit rubbish and Nokia hasn't had the time or resources to update them. Maybe when you buy the next device they'll have been updated. Or maybe not.

If Nokia want to compete they really need to start thinking more about delivering a top notch end-product rather than this progressively improving project which is becoming an expensive past time for many of us.

@DaveP1: Usability and CONTENTS!

Unfortunately, to become successful in today's market it's not enough just to have advanced tech spec and being completely open...

From what I've read, there's not much difference between this and a Touch.

Is it actually just a grown up touch with bigger screen, faster CPu, more ram and a keyboard dock?

Obviously my comments don't apply to everyone - many of the core platform developers are Nokia employs and on the whole they've done a very good job, but the whole package is let down by sub standard applications and integration of those applications with the rest of the system.

Maybe the bugs will be fixed for Harmattan, maybe Harmattan will work on the N900, maybe Harmattan will be just another mess... it's a never ending list of "maybes" with Nokia and Maemo, is there an end in sight? Yes progress is being made, but by the time worthwhile progress has been made your current device is rendered obsolete and you have to upgrade to a new device to continue helping Nokia remain relevant - can I be bothered in future? Not sure I can TBH.

Too bad. You dont have to worry, you can always buy the latest single tasking wonder - iPad. Nokia does not need your help to stay relevant. Loving my n900 even more.

I want Nokia to improve. I'm concerned that they won't make it. You should be too. You might be loving your N900, and I like mine too, but the N900, Nokia and Maemo is not competing with the interconnected-ness and the undeniable quality of the competition.
