Could also be battery % - it does like a good 70% for an OTA update....
Definitely not battery % related as I've been trying since 100%.

If worst comes to worst comes to worst, people having trouble can do both kinds of reformat mentioned on the Wiki. I had to do the eMMC format a few days ago. This doesn't stop you from backing up and restoring, but it helps sort things out and may help root out devils in the graveyard you didn't know were there.

It's a wonderful feeling to get back to the clean, efficient, awesome N900 you had when you first got it, and you learn from the process of starting over again. Just be patient and the N900 will pay you back.

for checking no updates in your region or just problem with you phone use:
1. open x-terminal
2. sudo gainroot (You need rootsh package installed)
3. apt-get update
4. apt-get upgrade
On question upgrade answer no.
Before answering look on list available packages for upgrade....

if you will see applications from list: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=16
It is mean problem with your phone and you install packages which prevent you from upgrade. In this case place on the forum question with outcome from "apt-get dist-upgrade" (but answer NO on question install?)...

Close application manager before doing it.

Well, my understanding is that doing so will remove ALL my self-installed apps and then I'd have to re-install them all anyway. A number of these were, if I remember correctly, painful to install and get working properly. Namely, in increasing order of pain-in-the-a**ness:

fMMS
garnet
vncviewer
QStarDict
Stellarium
OpenVPN
debian & CUPS

plus downloading OVI maps (time involved...takes my phone offline).

My wife already thinks I spend way too much time tinkering with this thing and I'm starting to agree!!

Thanks, mikhmv, good instructions.

I've just done this and there's no firmware packages being held back or waiting to upgrade currently for me. I have a 203 (Nokia UK/unlocked) handset, hopefully it'll save some others with a 203 a bit of time checking/asking for the moment

I get:

The following packages will be upgraded:
maemo-launcher
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded
Need to get 66.1kB or archives
After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.
