Not suitable every time or for everyone. In my case at home/friends and work I could connect the phone to the TV +Keyboard and Mouse.without carrying any of them.

Again not practical when on the train.

Pros and Cons. Every product or idea has one and this one is no different.

Logitech do a nice 2-1 Keyboard/Mouse, Would be really cool if that worked.

My weak old eyes are an advantage! They mean that I can hold the N900 closer to my face. If you are far-sighted, it's a different story.

Sounds like some of you missed out on the OQO. (oqo.com) Since defunct, but they were a computer the size of your hand that fit in your pocket. I loved them dearly.

Now though the N900 has replaced my 02. While it's not a x86 computer, it's open architecture means the sky is the limit with it. I VNC with my home comp anywhere in the world, and do real computing as a result. If i don't have a cell connection, I can work on code, check documents, and various other things.

For someone to complain that the N900 is not a PC enough experience just means they really haven't done any research or even attempted to unlock the real potential of this little computer.

People wonder why Nokia doesn't raise their hand more and tell people exactly what they can do with it. But the reason is all over this forum. Look at the people with rebooting issues, etc. from the new firmware update.

These problems are just the natural order of something that can be messed with by anyone. If Nokia was the one pulling all the strings on this phoen there would be a ground for people to complain. Alas this is not the case. This phone is open, and glorious because of it.

So stop wasting your time complaining about what YOU can't get it to do, and start searching this forum for all the possibilities.

I agree with you. At the moment Its like many are sitting on an oil field plucking fishes.

Some of us lack the know-how to real drill for the oil.

I've certainly found that on a network with other real computers (Only bigger.) it rocks! I don't honestly think I'd get any more use out of a netbook or even a laptop. If I want to run an app that uses lots of cpu, memory etc. then it's gonna be on my desktop!

The N900 is a phone with a good browser and some limited computing capabilities but with a teeny screen with limited graphics, a teeny thumbboard and no cursor capabilities on its own.

A netbook has no phone (other than Skype or similar software), a better browser, and better computing capabilities with a bigger screen and keyboard and a cursor.

There are also UMPCs (including my OQO) and MIDs that fall somewhere in between.

It all boils down to what you want to do and where you want to do it. Realistically, if you are looking for something to power a large screen with a keyboard and mouse you'd do better to invest in a netbook than in a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The low end ones aren't that much more than a good keyboard/mouse set and they will beat the N900 in every way except making phone calls.

If you are really serious about this, then it seems it would make a half decent netbook replacement - but don't even think about complaining that it's slow!

You can get a foldable keyboard (I have one made by iGo - but never used it!), and a bluetooth mouse quite cheap and tv-out cable ofcourse.

Don't expect it to all just 'work', you will have to mess around with it.

To get a video converter application try installing easy debian and install a linux video converter - it will do the job but probably only from command line.
