I think Nokia can no longer compete with companies like HTC on touch screens...thats why they r merging (getting help) from Intel...

But they are still trying their best... who knows what Nokia might end up with.??? mindblowing Meego or f-kin meego

personally, Nokia 770 deserves "N" prefix more than any product by Nokia.
770 developed 3 years ahead of iPhone Touch by Apple,
was never liked by Nokia

Developing Nokia 770 into really highly interactive Nokia Internet Tablet - like iPod Touch, coming with capacitive screen , is a lost chance.

Development strategy adopted by Nokia is exactly against a market, against global strategies adopted by manufacturers of mobile, smart phones, Internet tablets in China, Japan, US.

Managers responsible for development of Nokia Internet Tablets
should be dismissed for generating losses not profits.

Due to lack of global strategic planning, products by Nokia are nomore hot, replaced by Asia made smart phones (Apple, HTC and others).

Nokia has had its chance and has lost its chance.

Nokia's management should be replaced by new managers from China, Japan, Taiwan, US, Brazil, showing initiative to build a new success story , coming to market with high-tech hot products one day.

The difference is Nokia was developing Symbian and Maemo. Companies like HTC don't develop their own OS (though they do customize it). HTC uses Android and Windows Mobile.

Nokia merging their OS efforts with Intel's allows them to put two companies' resources together for developing an OS variant that can be installed on multiple devices. Though interestingly, I wonder how Symbian plays a role with the newly announced Meego. It seems to me that Symbian will play the traditional smartphone market, and Maemo (or rather Meego now) will be more for computer like work. Based on some of the devices they were talking about putting Meego on. Combining that with the QT cross-compatibility means apps developed in Symbian, and Meego could be brought back and forth.

I don't think Maemo was ever intended to be a profit making device. It always seemed more like an experiment by Nokia. It's only now that you see Nokia attempting to turn their experiment into something mass market. Though they still have a few things to figure out. Though I think they figured out that keeping Maemo to themselves would result in them ending up with limited marketshare (just like Apple will find themselves in the future). Until now it looked like Android would eventually wind up with dominant marketshare simply for the reason it could be put on multiple devices.

By combining with Intel's efforts and letting other companies put Meego on other devices like Symbian this increases the amount of users which increases awareness and attractiveness to application developers.

Not a good comparison.
HTC is just a phone manufacturers, has never made their own OS, they just build custom UI on top of other OS and design the hardware.

Unlike Nokia which is more and R&D company, who has done extensively research and development on hardware and multiple platforms (S40, S60, S80, Maemo) from dumphones to smartphones and also full set of SDKs for each platform.

Even Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung has their own platform for dumb phones and now Samsung is pushing its own new platform.

i have to dig through piles of arguments and silly comments to get to a sensible awnswer help that i need sometimes

i appreciate all the helpfull members etc and there are loads of them but it seems like alot of people are here to shout the loudest and its runing it for people coming here looking for help

cant the mods make a section called trash talk / annoyed users / venting section
