Yes, I have had the KBC-L2S for a couple of years now and it's a very capable device. Not cheap, but eneloop is known for quality.

Unfortunately it has the same problem with the N900 as most other "dumb power sources" (ie USB chargers that are not computers): the N900 will not charge from it if the USB cable does not have its "data pins" shorted.

Of course there are solutions for this (special cables, home made hacks) and my Sanyo now work just fine with the N900. See the threads on this topic, such as this one:

thanks, some more questions - in case you find time to answer them: how often can you charge the n900, 3 times? does the n900 charge to 100% and how long does it take?

Sorry, I don't have the patience and dedication to do such scientific tests :-)

Moreover, they're not relevant to my typical use case, as I always use the Sanyo to "top off" the N900 while I'm using it without a power source (as during looong meetings or travel), not when idle.

What I can tell you, though, is that it *will* charge the N900 to 100%, and that it *will* charge it faster than it consumes its battery, even during active use (with Wifi or 3G connection on).

That's enough for me :-)

I have the smaller L3S. While a good charger its not good for n900. Too much current draw and it will quickly overheat and go into shutdown before a full charge depending on the environment. Here in Hong Kong it will shutdown in a pocket, bag, or even out in open on a hot day.

Interesting the L2S needs the data pins shorted.

Great, this is the kind of usage info I was looking for!

Just for fun, a picture of my "ghetto proof-of-concept" USB adapter for charging the N900.

It's just a female and male USB type A connectors, with three wires soldered and the data pins shorted on the female side.

It works just fine, but I need to make it prettier and more rugged :-)

Actually, at the very beginning, I managed to get it working as is, by pressing the button on the Sanyo and quickly inserting the USB plug in the N900 (not easy!) while the blue LED was lit. At least sometimes. This was a tip I found in one of those huge threads I mentioned.

After the big PR1.1 update I could never manage it again, so I went the adapter way, which works every time.

I finally bought the KBC-L2S charger. As expected it only charges when using the following USB cable: Rocketfish Mobile USB Charging Cable I confirm and repeat what I have read elsewhere: I need to first plug in the cable to the charger and after that into the phone. The other way it will not charge.
