[*]Can I make my 770 look like the n800?
Yes. You can download a theme to closely match the appearance of the 800. More information here.

This link gives a 404 error. Is an alternate link available?

Great work on this FAQ.

So you deleted what you had done? Why?

Because me asking nicely for some questions to be answered didn't work. Because the FAQ had over 5000 views and I haven't been able to get 5 of my own questions answered.

So I'm making a point. Yes, it's a jerk thing to do (and I am a jerk for it) but just as they are under no obligation to help me, I am under no obligation to help them either. If people want to stop being so lazy and help out I'll help them too.

Well, I appreciate the fact that you tried. I'm guessing the lack of replies to your other thread (which you seemed to have answered most of your own questions, by following your own advice and searching) is not hostility towards you, or lack of people that are helpful (I could be wrong though), but that most users here have moved onto the N800.

With most of the Woot'ers satiated it's not much of an impact, though. Only the buy.com deal people will be left out.

I'm sure that all the people who are buying 770s now and logging on will appreciate your efforts. I have an N800 and didn't follow this thread and I don't know anything about Woot, so it didn't affect me. I wish someone would just delete this thread and put it out of its misery.

Sorry man, you're just being silly. As a new user, I thought it was great and I've been trying to help out a few others with my limited knowledge. So here's the last version I saved, in case it can help someone else.

If somone wanted to organize this better that would be great. Also, if people would check to make sure it's correct, that'd also be great.

FAQ:
  • How do i get the full screen keyboard to appear?
Press the middle button on the rocker pad (directional pad). Also you can tap the text entry field with your fingers.
  • Can I use 2GB rs-mmc cards with my Nokia 770?
    Absolutely.
  • Can you give me a definitive link regarding this?
No. My favorite so far, however, is this one here- It deals with using a 2GB MMCMobile card (which is faster than RS-MMC. Here's another thread as well dealing with the issue.
  • Is that it?
    Ok, fine.
  • Can I use the 770 while it's charging
    Yes, completely.
  • Can I use an external USB Flash Drive with my 770?
Yes - see the thread here among many others. Thank you Convoluted
  • How do i boot from an MMC card?
See this post on the maemo.org wiki.
  • What is the newest Firmware for the Nokia 770?
Codenamed "gregale", it carries the version number "3.2006.49-2". You can get it via Nokia's 770 support website, or from maemo.org. Courtesty gnuite
  • What is Internet Tablet OS 2007 Hacker edition?
I saw a great post on this but somehow missed copying the link. From what I can tell, Nokia dropped support for ITOS2007 from the 770, realized it would be a really big upgrade for the 770, and somewhat unofficially supported porting the 2007 OS back to the 770.
  • ITOS2006 vs ITOS2007HE: Who wins?
Figure it out for yourself here.
  • How do I install ITOS2007HE on my 770?
These seem to be the instructions. Apparently you can have a dual boot configuration as seen here as well.
  • If I have ITOS2007HE on my 770 should I use 2006 or 2007 aps?
    1. A large number of OS 2006 apps will work on OS 2007, but if given the choice obviously install the OS 2007 version.

    2. Repositories are now saved when you backup the device... at least they are on OS 2007! The other option is to install xterm and becomeroot, then open xterm; sudo gainroot; cd /etc/apt; cp sources.list <yourflashcard>. To restore, you'll need to copy the file sources.list back to it's original location and then run "apt-get update". It may not be wise to restore this file between different versions of the OS.
    Thanks to Milhouse.
  • How do I flash my n770 using OS X?
    See the Maemo guide here.
NOTE: These are apparently instructions for returning the device to factory firmware.
  • Can I use flash.app with my 770 to get the ITOS2007HE?
Yes...at least it worked for me- didn't see this anywhere else so i tried it.
  • Can I use flash.app with my intel based mac?
Yes...at least it worked for me on my MacBook Pro CoreDuo - didn't see this anywhere else so i tried it
  • Can I sync it with outlook.
The simple answer is no. The 770 is not designed to be a PDA. More information regarding outlook and calendar's can be found here.
  • Can I sync it to my computer?
No. Once again, it is not a PDA. The only reason to attach it to a PC is to transfer files to the rs-mmc card. Yes, you just bought a 135 dollar rs-mmc only card reader.
  • Can I make my 770 look like the n800?
Yes. You can download a theme to closely match the appearance of the 800. More information here.
  • Is there a hack for the 770 using ITOS2007HE so that it shuts off network connections and turns off the screen when the cover is placed on it?
That's a damn good question which was asked here. I don't have mine yet so I'm assuming this is the normal functionality that was removed from the n800 (since there is no hard cover).
  • Is Nokia still supporting development on the 770?
I've read conflicting storys (likely due to me reading posts out of order). Perhaps a forum regular can explain.
  • How do I install additional applications?
Debian uses a system known as here. You can all install it from application manager after adding the proper repository.
  • Can I access files over the network on a windows PC?
Yes. Information regarding this can be found here and here.
  • Is there any easier way to get all the repository lists in my 770?
    Yes. Look here.
  • Is there a list of tools for developers and power users?
    The list is here.
  • What is the best e-book reader out there?
The consensus seems to be FBReader. However, FBReader does not read PDFs and while the newer software on the 770 does PDFS a lot better than the 2005 OS, EVINCE Reader is a better alternative (Link Needed Please!)]
  • Is there a way to get the battery icon to display a percentage?
    According to TexRat, no.
  • I'm pretty paranoid- can I put a firewall on my device.
    Amazingly, apparently so.
  • What should I do if my 770/800 refuses to boot / boot-loops / is otherwise not responding?
There are some issues when cold booting a 770/800 on the charger - you will usually see this happen if you let the tablet batteries die, plug it in, and attempt to boot. Disabling the watchdog also fixes this, but that's a more advanced process with undesirable side effects.

To fix this, let your 770/800 charge for some time (let's say an hour on the safe side.) Unplug it from the charger, remove the battery, re-insert the battery, and attempt to boot. Once the device has finished booting, you may plug in the charger.

If the device still refuses to boot, you will need to disable the watchdog (linux required) or reflash.
  • How can I get the 770/800 Software Update Wizard (on Windows) to use a locally downloaded firmware instead of re-downloading every time?
Disconnect/disable your internet connection. The Software Update Wizard will allow you to open a local file instead.
  • What do I do if the answer I was looking for isn't here?
    Search the Forum first!.
  • There was nothing about it on the forum.
Now it's OK to ask someone.
  • I have a better way of organizing this and presenting it, Will you change it to that?
    If it's better, yes!
  • Is Is this FAQ complete? Will you add links of good material? Is all of this correct and current? Will you make corrections if submitted? Why the hell did you do this if you don't even have your 770 yet?
No. Yes. Ask a forum regular. Yes. Stupid questions irritate me.
