(... and it was me) Can you give us an example of update with NEW features in 4 months for N1/iPhone/etc ?

The relevance, chrisp7, (you must not have been reading the thread) is that someone said that the N900 hadn't had any new features yet, AS OPPOSED TO OTHER PHONES. So, to pick an example, the new features released by the iPhone were listed.

I'm sure you can find the relevant sections of this thread if you try.

Since you asked what the relevance was, I hope you're happy I've now pointed it out.

N900: the new marmite.

By the way, my time- space continuum warper works on my n900; I opened up MicroB, came here, found this thread and suddenly it was half an hour later.
(And that's not even mentioning the Oooh look at that app in devel... moments).

Nicola
Perfectly happy with N900.
Particularly loving VNC - so I can lie in bed and make my pc do things, without even bothering to sit up with the laptop. Mmmm

Can you refer us to Nokia statement?

So far we suffer due to absence of any Nokia statement but you know something, right?

Or you just misleading us?

And all you had to do was read the wikipedia article to see that, after 4 months, 0 new features. After 13 months, still Rev 1 OS, 0 new features.

After 2 YEARS, and 2nd generation hardware, new features like Cut & Paste, Video Recording, and MMS were finally added in the THIRD major rev of the OS.

So yeah, I think Nokia is spot on track. Let's see if we have MMS on the third generation OS and second generation hardware. That would be Meego 2.0, and the N1000, in 2011.

I'm thinking they can hit that target.

You're assuming that the N900 is a first generation product? It wasn't based on the Nokia 770, the Nokia N800, the Nokia N810, the Nokia N810 WiMax Edition? Near as I can tell, Maemo has been developed for quite some time and is most definitely not first generation and it STILL has an incredibly inept media player, email client, etc. If a new feature like TELEPHONE is thrown in and you're expecting MMS and other generally assumed features in a smartphone these days, my experience is that it may or may not be delivered--and then it may or may not work well. And then, if you complain about how it's done, it's unlikely to get fixed until the next whole OS, which may or may not end up only being delivered with the next hardware. The "may or may not" is mainly due to a severe and deafening lack of communication or outright disinterest in customer's interests from Nokia on their Maemo updates and bugfixes.

-sigh- So tired of it.

Didn't the N1 get pinch to zoom on their maps, browser and pictures? I would consider that a feature.

Given how Nokia restarts maemo with each generation it might as well be a first-generation device.

However to address your rather irrelevant point

The iphone was the only phone/platform supported by apple so had a very long platform lifespan.

You simply cant compare the two. The N900 simply will not get this length/amount of support, and it WONT get many extra features - as mentioned by Nokia (after indicating additional features WOULD be forthcoming).
well not for freaking 4 months and annouced meego will not be on n900. nokia management must be mafia or something this is freaking 500+ dollars phone, its just so wrong to even say maybe door is not closed. It should be definitely supported, i dont care about new features, when you have flagship device just came out you dont just announce something like that, this just show how irresponsible nokia managements are. and obviously who gonna support maemo 5 after they have meego to focus on, our community?
