Nexus one is far from satisfaction. Take a look at the AMOLED screen issues with it right now. The screen doesn't always followed your fingers lol. The zoom is great but at some point the screen doesn't register the finger and start drawing random patterns. Nexus one's camera is not as good and smooth as N900. Very laggy and blurry. Though it has more RAM and more CPU power but no SPACE!! 512MB ROM? what can you do with that? Farming more memory? Yes it accept the MicroSD card, but isn't Nokia using MicroSD card almost before everyone else in their device? I like the idea of internal memory, Iphone has it, it was great but everything is a +++ from Apple. But there are a few things I really hate about it, the OS is so strict and closed, unless you JB it, there is no way to transfer any thing to the device without iTunes, battery life on it is a shocking problem too.

Screen resolution is very bad comparing to N900, though the UI is much much smoother I have to agree with that. Apple Ipod has the same UI and smooth. N900 still abit laggy and sometimes doesn't response to the finger pressure until a couple of press later.

But yet the N900 does what I want my portable device would do, open and multi-tasking (sacrificing smoothness) and high resolution. I can Xterminal command it at any time and hacking the OS whenever I felt like. I must say it has so much potential but as for now those potentials are still no where close to being discovered even by Nokia themselves.

I agreed that OVI MAP 1.01 SUCKS hard. I can't search for anything offline (an online type device) but I still love the device even so much negatives from it. It is the world best worst phone device I have ever own

But it the world best internet tablet, computer in my pocket i've ever seen and own.

Despite the negatives part, whereas I think it will be able to evolve to be the next best Nokia phone one day. Just give it some time and enjoy what you can do with it.

I don't care about 3D or 4D game or even 6D games or what ever, I just want to see the iPhone getting drown when sitting next to my N900

LINUX is the BOMB!!!

Yes, this is the first Nokia Linux tablet with a GSM radio, and BASIC phone features.

Unless I am missing something.
-sigh- So tired of it.
Right there with you.

EXACTLY.....my personal beef with the n900 support , well nokia in general is they say lots about the n900/maemo and next steps , but it means jack S**T because so far they don't visibly DO anything ....not for the general consumer that WILL buy / have bought this device.

No-one i have spoken to in nokia support knows ANYTHING about the new uk updates , or maps , or anything...

To be honest if i ran my business telling half truths or fudging i would have no business..

Oh and i DO love the phone , so don't bash me for that , just very frustrated wth nokia and this amazing device that i will spend £720 on my contract for with no hope of any cohesive manufacturer support being there for 2 years ..

We all berate apple for their laughable device and silly apps , but 2 or 3 years after initial release tthey still make silly fart apps for the original spec device , where will my n900's silly fart apps be in 2 plus years ??

sorry its long , but sums up nokia's "support/aftersales" structure in my opinion.

True, it has been more than 4 months and there are 0 paid apps and ovi voice to voice navigation is nowhere. We thought maemo thing is the new os that nokia comes up with to compete with iphone and android thats why it draw buyers, now they are abandoning 4 months old os that third party developers spend so much time on it? add insult to injury come with ambiguous excuse that new meego may not support n900, ive been nokia user for my whole life, well this gonna be my last phone, apple treats their customers better when they constantly load up new updates to their old phones. I think all third party developers should not wasting time on maemo 5 since obviously managements do not show a bit of continuing support on maemo.

And we are full circle

Maemo 5 is Linux, and Qt runs on it, and Qt/Linux is the developer platform for Meego, which is Linux + Qt, so the developers and the platform are the same.

So, yeah, in the sense that the developers are fully able and encouraged to move to Qt for all development, and Qt is supported, and so anything a developer develops now with Qt will work going forward, you're RIGHT!

Let me clarify something - the difference between tablet and phone.

The biggest difference is Real Time. You want to receive your phone call, right? There is no such problem on tablet, but N900 solves this for GSM, SIP and Skype in multitasking environment. Where is such experience in a world? That is a big deal - just consider the situation then video is played and call arrives. For smooth video it should have an elevated priority but phone application has it too.

The next is battery - 3G consumes battery and that phone is actually announced as constantly online. Tablet doesn't need that. Simple GSM phone or phones like iPhone or even Nexus One have NO requirement to support permanent multitasking connection to Internet. Because they allows background work only for specific applications but not any customer installed. So, N900 by requirement allows your appication communicate with world ever minute. And that eats battery!

There are another multiple differences between tablet and multitasking phone but these two are the biggest.

I agree that the iPod/iPhone Facebook app is good for some things. But there is always http://touch.facebook.com/ plus I love how on my N900 I can play Mafia Wars, something the iPhone cannot do.

For uploading pics there's the mass uploading through the sharing system in Maemo (you can either use Facebook or something like pixelpipe with a pipe for Facebook). But I do agree that tagging is harder in the browser.

Facebook should just match up people's names based on what they are tagged with.

Of course there is the question of battery life and whether it'll actually work or not, but in this case I'm sure a little hacking would suffice.
I had a 16Gb SD card in my N800. Why wouldn't a 32Gb work in the N900? AFAIK there is no difference in vfat support for 16Gb vs 32Gb, the only limiting factor is the price.
