You're welcome.

I looked around in the wiki and I see there is no Skype how-to for the N900 yet.
Do you think I could write it?

That doesn't really make sense: Skype is not a cellular phone service. If you just want to be able to dial numbers of the phone pad and use Skype to make the call then simply pick tap the 'call type' button to use skype.

This thread got me thinking.

The place where i work I am on call 24/7 as tech support. I get tired of using all my mobile minutes when people from work call me with stupid requests.

What do you guys think of purchasing a skype number and getting an unlimited domestic plan and just giving out that number as if it is a separate "Work Cell."

I am on WiFi most of the time and when I'm on the go i have really solid 3g connections in the area.

depending on where you are you may be able to get a landline number for free, then set up a voip account on your phone and use it in the same way as skype.

check sipgate for example, but there are a few out there, just google it. i got it for uk and italy.and regurarly use them both at home and on the mover with a n95 first and n900 now.

bear in mind that you drain the battery very easily, but being in an office you should not have any problem getting new juice.

Hmmm i checked out the Sipgate thing but there are not any numbers available in my state(Michigan) so they can offer me a California number. I don't think they will want to have to pay Long Distance fees in order to call me from office phones.

You have given me hope that this is a good solution though!

I will check around and see if i can find somewhere that offers me a more local number.

Thanks for your help Satello

many carriers block skype calls over their 3G/EDGE networks, so it's not always as easy as that
t-mobile austria f.ex. filter skype traffic, i had to set up a VPN connection to my home network to make it work.

I am loving skype on the n900 it is a paradigm shift for mobile phones.

below are a few little bugs needing votes to improve it.

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8343 (Skype & SIP Pause + DTMF)
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8344 (support for "," as a pause in dialling DTMF from address book.)
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8345 (skype & SIP Call Work, Home, Etc)

There is a bug needed (add button @ 3.e) to block unsolicited skype spam, (i get a lot mote Viagra offers now my skype is up 24/7.)

It always default to cell and I have to change it back to Skype for every freaking single call.
Yes, I can do that, just wondering if anyway to preset it to save one step

That's a shame for the carriers, and a nice work for you!

I to only started to get these when i got my N900, I always get them in the middle of the night to. Glad to know its not just me, although I did wonder if an app I installed had sent out my skype address because I never had them until i got my N900.
