Hi

noob here - some of my questions may be really 2nd nature to you guys, so please bear with me.

I've installed GNU Emacs for the purpose of CJK input.

The installation part was pretty straightforward - no issues here. Remapping the keyboard was ok. But getting to switch the language was challenging for me

I'm stuck at the step 3:
Switch to the input method of your choice, e.g. for Japanese:
C-x RET C-\
jap TAB TAB

been trying on and off for 3 days, but still can't get to the part where i get to "select input method (default ... " as shown in the video.

Please help a noob here. Need CJ input to wean off the laptop.

What are you stuck on?

What do you see after C-x RET C-\

sorry, left out my actual description of my problem.

How do you press C-x RET C-\?

C-x = Ctrl x
RET = return (i.e enter or carriage return)
C-\ = Ctrl fwd slash (?) i've got a nagging feeling this is what i missed.

really appreciate your help!

Control and backslash, that's why you need to have the keyboard remapped, cause it doesn't have a backslash by default.

guess pressing Ctrl-shift B (for the backslash) doesn't work?!

so which keys did you guys sacrifice for the backslash? would be nice if ctrl-\ can be accessed from the drop down menus.

Hahah, apparently not...

I've remapped the Fn-C from slash to backslash and made Shift-Space slash, works wonders...

I've goofed the install somehow: here is what I get running emacs as root:

This is what it looks like as user:

Is it the permissions on maxframe.el?
Code:
Nokia-N900-42-11:/home/user/emacs# ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 user users 6785 Apr 7 00:14 maxframe.el

Hey there guys... Managed to get Emacs running for CJK input. Nicely done, but any way I can create a new shortcut that goes straight to an empty new file, rather then the tutorial every time?

Other than that, anyone compiled debs for: BBDB and W3M? Trying to get the Textmode browser working, just for kicks (and Lynx is too rootfs un-friendly).

Oh, and C-x RET C-\ works here with FN+B for backslash, somehow. And I remapped Shift+Space to backslash too, hmm.
