You are counter argumenting yourself. Maemo is a young platform. It went a long way in becoming very usable Operating System for handheld devices already.
The phone functionality is very new. You cannot expect all the features Nokia developed for S40 and then redeveloped for S60 immediately on this new platform. Surely knowhow is transferrable, but code isn't (Symbian is soooo different from what we got used to in POSIX world.). And given the limitted manpower given to Maemo platform (S60 brings still 90%+ revenue of Nokia), we should not expect miracles.

The phone applet is there. It even has more than basic make/recieve calls functionality. Hell... it already have most features I had in my previous HTC WinCE crapphone. And it behaves... similarly stable.

Regarding your specific problems, there is definetely something wrong with your device. There are reports of hardware problems manifesting all mysterious ways. Maybe a simple replace would make you happier?

I am using N900 as the only phone since November '09 and I didn't experience such problems. I was even annoyed once by a call interrupting watching a movie with friends on a big TV. I do not disable any features, and I don't have to charge it twice a day - every night only.

So... You're right - N900 phone functionality is crap in todays standards. But it has the advantage of beeing there and I don't have to carry two devices with me all around.

Maemo is not a young platform. Considering Nokia is a phone developer its a little ironic they f***ed it up.

Does anyone have the issue where ur talking and suddenly loud speaker turns on?

I may admit N900 does not behave smoothly as a phone.
But I would like to help you if possible before you throw your N900 away: how old is your SIM card ?
A old SIM with scratchy contacts may explain a lot of troubles and battery consumption.
Please read the following post for details

Good luck.

I have had that problem but did not even bother listing it amongst the list of problems I am having but it only happened once. But worse thing was the screen was just blank so I could not even switch off the speaker so had to use speaker the whole conversation. Good thing I was not on the tube or any other public place.

I visit many forums and do not have any such problem anywhere else. You see it as hyperbole I see it as my assessment of the situation based on all the circumstances including pricing. I would understand the responses if I said the N900 is the worst phone in the world. I am entitled to my opinion.

I don't have to examine every single phone in the world. Based on my experiences with phones and experiences of people close to me and the price I paid I have come to the conclusion I have the worst phone in the world. It is worse than the Sony Ericsson I had 10 years ago that I hated so much. That did not cause me to miss half of my calls.

you are realy a big TROLL
the n900 regardles of how you or any1 define it , phone or tablet , for most ppl is a TOOL .
if u use it to chat with ur friends etc , and missing a call isnt that bad for u , i can totaly understand it . but for some ppl missing a busnise call may mean disaster .
back to to original thread now
i experience some lag when recieving a call , but all i can remeber is 1 or 2 call that i missed . since then i reboot my phone evey day when i wake up .

your post makes me wonder ..
1st he spend the same mount of money as every1 for the device.
2nd he doesnt criticis/attack u , since u r not " Nokia " nor the device designer or the OS developer , i guest.
3rd he just states a problem he has , and after paing 585 euros in my case , i expect the device to work PERFECTLY, and every1 else here should expect the same . for the love of god this is nokia's flagship device , if it cant perform smoothly the task it supposed to do what can u expect from other cheaper devices !

can show me where excacly it says , you will miss your phone calls when watching videos ?

ps: regardless of how much i like my N900 the truth is that it is far from perfect in ANY aspect and needs much work .
psII: since every1 here bought the n900 , we somehow " love it " .
psIII: sorry for my english , but its not my 1st nor 2nd language .

THIS IS MY FAV POST :
