I feel that I need to contribute to this thread. I bought this phone about two months ago. I didn't buy it before because I was saving up.

1. Everyone says that the N900 was expensive. I don't really agree with you. The N900 is euros 550 from retail stores here. And do tend to overprice things. An iPhone 3GS costs about 700 euros. The iPhone is only cheap in America. HTC products are also in this price range if not more expensive and the N97 is more expensive. The hardware this phone packs makes the money worth it. I have never felt that the devie was too expensive.

2. I researched the device quite a bit before buying it.

This is what I knew about it from research. The OS is still young and being developed for, so there may be issues with stability and performance, the camera doesn't have a lot of functions (yet), there aren't many apps or games but the number is steadily increasing, the media player doesn't have an equalizer, the phone lets you free to explore it, and that internet browsing is like a charm although flash doesn't work well with all websites.

This is what I think about it after two months of usage. The OS is young, and has some stability and performance issues..but not that much. Performance and stability are quite good. And the infamous PR 1.2 promises to develop the OS even further. The number of apps is quite acceptable for now. Number of games is a bit disappointing but maybe flash 10.1 will make flash games much more playable and more games will come. The repositories are just great. Updating and installing is like a dream. You really can't complain about that. Reinstalling the firmware gave me the option to automatically restore all apps, which I was pleasantly surprised to find out. The media player doesn't have an equalizer. That was disappointing but I was very pleased that just copying dvdrips from my pc to my N900 would work. No more need for converting the videos. Camera is a bit disappointing compared to N95, but still very good in daylight. Video could be better. They should offer 640x480 @ 30fps as a second option. Browsing did not disappoint me at all. Although I much prefer tabs..maybe in the future.. And the phone really lets you do what you want. I love the freedom on it. If I want to brick my own device, I should be able to. The community warns about extras-devel. It's your choice. Personally I use it carefully. And the most important thing: the community is friendly (at times), can offer helpful advice, help you develop, develop themselves and most apps and games are free.

3. I knew that android or iphone or symbian might have more apps. Of course I knew, Who didn't? But the number of applications in the repositories increases almost daily. The community is open to many ideas and new apps and games are being developed.

4. Personally I don't really trust Nokia. I don't know yet if Meego will be available to the N900 or not, bu either way, that was a series blow to the N900. Serious developers who were skeptical about choosing Maemo5 will be even more skeptical about it because of the Maemo/Meego confusion. I don't hear enough from Nokia. They might be working behond the scenes, and might be fixing everything and making the N900 perfect and Meego compatible, but frankly I don't hear enough from them. I wish I could. That being said, I am very happy with the performance so far and the fixes PR 1.2 will bring. Hopefully it won't bring many bugs. I may not trust Nokia (currently), but I trust the community. The community is rich with information, applications, fixes and hacks, tutorials, real people giving real advice and many more. I have never seen a better community. I may not post much, but I certainly browse and when I learn more I may even help others like they helped me.

5. I am very disappointed with the performance or VGBA. The N95 with its inferior CPU performed much better, I hope the software improves. I feel like the GPU isn't being used in most cases at all.

Sorry for the long post. The N900 is not for everyone. Clearly it wasn't suited for you. Personally I would never go for the iPhone. Too mainstream and limited. But that's just me.

Less likely for developers to be skeptical with Intel around

Excuse my ignorance, but what prior platform has Intel propelled that has similar scope and depth as a mobile smartphone OS?

I mean, please don't cite x86; as it's a commoditized modular platform which Intel has largely focused solely on the hardware layer. Over the years it's basically snowballed their strength and size by pushing primarily the performance aspect but arguably nothing really new... outside of extension in performance.

pantera1989 that was very personal I guess But I exactly know what you feel.

To addition to that I saw this mobile computer as the device able to play Flash. That was my key to make decision. And yes, Maybe about 1000 apps are available for N900 for now. But as device I can't see competitor on the market for now. People are always looking for some small issue and trying to get your attention to that.

In my opinion this device shouldn't be never ever compare to iShit.
By definition is above the tech range, just looking at spec. My assumption is somebody who created subject N900 vs IShit was just iShit fun boy. From psychological point of view if you put 2 things together against, you will start thinking about issues and differences but your brain adopt this fact as some comparable variables. There is nothing to compare!

Each time when some iShit fun boy asking me how many apps have you seen today? My answer is a question:
How many blue legos have you seen today?

P.S. why I am using word iShit? because each time when you spell it correctly on internet you support iShit

What I meant was that developers might have been skeptical because at the time of its release, they knew Maemo5 only runs on one phone, but might run on more, so more consumers so might be worth it to develop for it.

And now they will be even more skeptical because Nokia practically announced that the N900 will be the only phone to ever run Maemo5. Now Maemo and Meego may be similar, but not the same, so some porting will need to be done. So developers might think: lets wait for Meego. So now we won't be expecting many apps for Maemo5.

I always expected something similar to happen. But at least a year from Maemo's release..not mere months. I really do believe that developers were interested in the N900 but now decided to wait for Meego.

I am not whining (well maybe a bit) but I do feel a bit betrayed by Nokia. After all I have been using Symbian for a while and loved it. I chose Maemo because I know Symbian too well now. I was bored. Maemo is a whole new adventure. But I wouldn't mind if some big companies develop for this phone and I believe Nokia scared them away (until Meego that is).

I completely agree with u berty. I am a sufferer too. There r many positive sides but the negative sides pain u more than the good sides sooth u. I am too much annoyed with the poor battery, especially when under 3G. I barely browse the internet when in 3G. Suddenly u see ur battery has gone down to 10 or 15% from 70 or 80%. The other disgusting thing is u don't have apps which I'm a fan of. Look at iPhone- 200,000 apps. How many we got here, only 274 till date. Fring came months ago but still in beta version! No nimbuzz, no fishtext, no good London tube map, no Ovi maps. They claimed it's open source and shits like this. What the hell am I gonna do with this open source or closed source when I'm a normal user who wants more and more practical apps???

I would thank this twice if I could.

It has some talented developers though.
