what about no (hardware) keyboard? I think we'll be seeing some snap-on portable keyboard starting with iPhone 4G... now that it's finally enabled the bluetooth keyboard profile in its software stack. And the flat back also accomodates add on accessories better.
You could probably get a similar SSH server (not client) by jailbreaking. Of course that means going outside Apple's walled garden and "voiding your warranty" (of course a reflash back to normal would "restore the warranty".

As for the hard keyboard. Eh, I prefer it to be built into the device rather than someone I have to remember to carry with me. It's like the FM transmitter I use to have for my old MP3 player (before I even got the n800). I would occasionally forget it if I took another car. But now that it's built into the N900, it doesn't matter what car I drive (with the help of FM boost and the custom frequencies). But for others, they may not want the bulk of having an FM transmitter built into the device or a hard keyboard. But no company has yet to make a device that suits everyone. I guess that's why we have so many companies in the fray. =P

iphone 4g wins definitely hands down due to the current sorry state n900 is left in by nokia. its is not like n900 have superior hardware.

when i bought it, i was given the impression it have the same hardware specs as 3gs. apparently not. the cpu n the gpu was almost the same, but almost doesn't cut it. and now with pr 1.2 delayed indefinitely. everytime i read a post or news, theres something that apple or other device gained n we're still left behind.

Yes, you definitely can. Opensshd has been ported to it since iPhone 1.0 if I remember right, even before the appstore opened.
Personally I don't think jailbreaking is a big deal.. it's (really) a 2 minutes process, without needing a firmware reflash or re-sync of data..

I prefer built-in keyboard too, but one always dreams of getting his cake and eating it too So far the best keyboard implementation I've used is still by blackberry, unfortunately...

The problem for jailbreaking for me is that it's a battle with Apple that's never going end. Especially the extremes that Apple has tried to take that resulted in the EFF coming in.

If it was more of a "we don't support this, and won't provide tech support customers who jailbreak their devices and have issues" then that would be different.

Hehe... as long as it's widespread and popularenough, Apple still can't really do anything about it. I mean, they actually have a few things in their arsenal that they don't deploy in the jailbreak war, perhaps for fear of (further) alienating the segment of their userbase that jailbreaks..

Ok, so it's a legit Apple device. But is it the next 'Iphone 4G' device? Dunno. Design-wise it's pretty corporate looking (to me) and has enough buttons & ports to be a WinMo phone. I'm not saying it's a WinMo phone, I'm saying this device doesn't match the as-few-hardware-controls-as-possible aesthetic common to Apple devices.

Apple/Jobs have long been rumored/reported to plant decoys just to (1) confuse the market and (2) test employee loyalty/integrity.

I'm leaning towards #2 above as the reason this got into the wild.

+1 for soon-to-be-out-of-work Apple employee.

@toto: (What sd card slot...?) There's only a (micro)sim slot on the side...

And I'm really skeptical about the removable battery part on iPhone 4. Could it be it's just modular on the prototype?

Their technical* argument for doing away with removable batteries was that by leaving out the parts necessary to make the battery removable (contacts, modular packaging, etc) they can cram more capacity in the same space. Perhaps the incremental increase is not significant enough on these battery-thirsty Cortex A8 + 3G handhelds.

Or perhaps Steve is fed up with the lucrative 3rd party iphone 'battery packs' market.
