VD would be a nice gimmick, but i don't actually need it.
I have had Phones that were capable of voice dialing for 6 years and i used it maybe a handfull of times and only to test if it actually works (which it did quite well).

I use the voice dialing in the car only, but I consider it essential. I might sell my N900 because of this missing feature, and some other basics such as caller name announcement that I really liked. Actually, a lot of th software is a little disappointing. I kind of wish another high-end phone with S60 would also offer 1700mhz - I'd take an N97 instead.

A good trick for Voice dialing non-english names on the S60 phones, btw, is to pronounce the name how the voice-announcement pronounces it, even if it's wrong. The reading and listening algorithms seem to be the same.

Yeah, just got nokia bh-214 headset, didn't need voice dialling before this but would like it now.

Heaset works great except only with built in media player, controls don;t work with mediabox I( not that it's a big deal ) still finding my default media player.

Every other Nokia phone I owned came with it so I just assumed it was built in. I work a blue collar job, pulling the phone out of my pocket and scrolling through my contacts is not an option. I have the newest jawbone headset which comes with nearly as many apps as n900 ( not really, used for emphasis). The 900 is listed as a cell phone first. If I wanted a netbook I would have purchased one. I sold my n95 because it was hard to browse w/out touchscreen; then the express music which also was great but no 3g on tmobile. Finally a phone supposed to be top of the line and compete with android and iphone, not. Seems it may be obsolete after only owning it for 6 months. Sorry maemo people, but there seems to be a lack of interest in this OS by developers. Check out OVI store once, 30 apps or so, android which has been around not much longer has thousands. Hard to attract developers when you back away from an OS as Nokia has done with its switch to meego. Sorry for my rambling, but I am disappointed that what could have been a great handheld device/phone may be going the way of the dinosaur. How is it that HTC has become so prominent?
Thanks for reading this

eSpeakCaller might help you with the announcement but I'm not sure if it has come out of extras-development to extras-testing. have a look for it.

I can only support the call for Nokia to instruct Maemo to produce voice activated dialling. It is practically negligent of Nokia to permit a smartphone to be sold in the Uk without this feature given that UK law requires all calls from a car to be hands free.
