It's 12.9mm on the thickest part(12mpx camera module). So it's pretty far from thick.

Nokia are notorious for changing the chargers each phone release. Or generational release. I would argue that because our company phones are nokia and we need three differing types of charger to supply the office and charge all the phones. Not to mention my N900 that is "new" and has yet another charger type (Requiring a Nokia supplied and over costed piece of kit) Whereas HTC use one type that is as the name suggest, 'universal.'
