BTW is anybody here can approximately say/guess these figures actually? I mean how of us is here? Because my impression is like proportionally members to developers - 1/4 but numbers hmm?

2 Months ago, 3rd March, I wrote a e-mail to the support of AdMob, if it is possible to integrate AdMob in Maemo-Apps.

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. I understand you had a question with regards to becoming a publisher on our network. We currently do not support the maemo5 platform. However, we are constantly improving our product offering and if we are able to support this in the future we will be sure to let our publishers know. I would encourage you to continue checking our website for any updates.

Best regards,

AdMob Support

All these sites are platform-neutral. What you are selling is not applications, but keys to applications, tied to specific IMEIs. Therefore, there is no need to provide a Maemo-specific app shop. In fact, you can place your applications into Extras Non-Free, and let people download them from there, while selling keys separately.

The problem I'd like to solve is the strange situation with Ovi store.
You are not Nokia, so you will not "solve" anything related to Ovi store. Simply ignore it. You can sell applications through a dozen other channels available on the Net.

If you really want to provide another distribution channel and charge developers for using it, you should carefully consider what unique value your channel will provide when compared to the existing channels.

Ok - I see what you mean now and I see why I completely ignored those solutions. There are two ways of buying apps really: a complete app store with reviews, integrated interface, etc. which is designed for people to browse through it mainly ; then there's a shop tied to your website which requires the customer to know about the application or to search for it.
I don't even consider clickgamer - I don't believe that the typical maemo user would touch it with a 10' pole. It looks cheap and on par with the "send 123 to 456 to get your crazyfrog ringtone". I don't see a specific area for maemo either, so as a customer I'd completely ignore it.

Ovi is what I'd like to see working. Ovi is integrated, you can browse it, it's got quality design and being a maemo fan, I see I should get my apps there. If only it worked and didn't those entry fees...
That's why I want to create an alternative. If Nokia gets its act together and starts caring again, good. If not, the first serious maemo-targetted app store has the chance of being the de-facto standard

Yup - I see not being any of the companies you listed to be a unique value... Maybe I'll have to define it better so that others believe me, but there's a start

We already got App Manager for browsing apps, t.m.o to discuss them, and maemo.org/downloads to present them. Application reviews are also available at my-maemo.com. Are you planning to make something better than these services? Have you already found people who will review and rate apps for you?

Yup - I see not being any of the companies you listed to be a unique value.
As a commercial developer, I do not see that as a unique value. Sorry.
