can someone give me the command lines to reinstall the default nokia kernel and remove kernel power, power settings and the advanced kernel packages as my phone seems to have become a teeny bit unstable

I cant revert back to the stock with this command, it always tells about something missing or fu**ed up. I tried apt-get update and everything terminal suggested but no, still cant revert. Whats the matter?

Copy/paste the output of the error or the missing packages.

using pr 1.2 ? cant restore stock kernal on pr1.2 as not officially out yet so kernal cant be downloaded , guess only way may be deconstruct pr1.2 bin file if possible ? if your on pr 1.1 not a clue to the solution so sorry cant help only novice myself !

Would there be any benefits to disabling CPU scaling and enabling one constant frequency (e.g. 1000MHz)?

Yes that would most probably **** up your device.

No, it would not kill your N900.

In theory, it is better than scaling because:

1) higher frequency saves more energy - I am lazy to repeat all my measurement which shows that but you can browse this thread back.

2) no switching - no expenses on switching.

3) fast reaction.

But my measurements show that there is one disadvantage -

ARM has two VDD and VDD2 is used to power peripherals (bus, SGX etc). And it needs to be powered more with higher frequency. So, the energy consumption on high frequency is a little more in practice - in simple CPU intensive calculation it gives a better result but in case of day-to-day usage the peripherals eat this advantage.

However, it is not big and you may try in your N900, especially with different voltage setup.

i believe egoshin means that in higher frequencies, the power is more efficient for the reason being:

the CPU has less time and effort running from a low frequency to a higher which is needed, if your on idle @ 0mhz and runs an app which requires 1000mhz (for example) the cpu will run with all its efforts from 0mhz to meet the desired frequency.

Locking to speeds that require overvoltage (the levels used at 550/600 MHz speeds with factory settings) is *EXACTLY* what is stated by Nokia engineers to be known to be able to kill the CPU - and from this thread, 1000MHz is not readily attainable without using those voltages.
