Oh, that again. I have already decided that it will not affect the general visibility that much, so I won't be "fixing" it.

I think its the perfectionist in Joppu that disallows him from doing multiple color schemes. He likes to do it exactly the way he imagined it, with no "compromise" of other variations to please others.

I atleast share this attitude in things like these, so might be projecting how I feel about it into this.

To me it feels like a very Finnish mentality

Hello, Joppu

A few problems I have found with the theme:
1. Notifications are shown in gray instead of yellow. Yes, I understand that this may have been a style decision, but they are notifications. They have to stand out.
2. Selected list icons have got left/right edges. This causes unpleasant visual effects in multi-column lists. Try selecting an entry from the phone log or contacts.
3. Volume/position slide in the Video Player shows up with the wrong background.
4. There is a gray frame around the screen in the Image Gallery.
5. The default background color (gray) messes up some other apps as well, such as BatteryGraph.
6. Sliders (such as volume slider) show up some color-banding.
7. Please, make shortcut icons larger, the same size as in the original themes. There are really other ways to save desktop space, without making shortcut icons look truncated.
8. Contact shortcuts come up in green, without contact faces.

That is all I could have found by now.

I'll probably have to change it into a lighter tone like I have done in Array. But not yellow.

2. Selected list icons have got left/right edges. This causes unpleasant visual effects in multi-column lists. Try selecting an entry from the phone log or contacts.
This is intentional.

3. Volume/position slide in the Video Player shows up with the wrong background.
Probably won't fix since it's a problem with the application, not the theme.

4. There is a gray frame around the screen in the Image Gallery.
Ditto.

5. The default background color (gray) messes up some other apps as well, such as BatteryGraph.
BatteryGraph's fault, nothing I can fix.

6. Sliders (such as volume slider) show up some color-banding.
This is due to the limited color depth of the N900, I'll see if I can get in fixed.

7. Please, make shortcut icons larger, the same size as in the original themes. There are really other ways to save desktop space, without making shortcut icons look truncated.
This one is a difficult since I really like the smaller ones. But will try enlarging them.

8. Contact shortcuts come up in green, without contact faces.
This shouldn't be happening, it's a bug with the graphics handling that it can't update the contact shortcut images properly. Please reboot a few times.

At least make it stand out! Use blue or something... Same goes for those progress bars - their labels are almost invisible right now (see screenshot shown above).

This is intentional.
Looks pretty ugly though =( A lot of these lists were not supposed to look like this.

Again, blaming it on the applications will not work, as users are stuck with these applications anyway. Nobody is going to fix them. Hell, way more serious problems in built-in apps like Gallery are not getting fixed by Nokia.

Understood.

If the whole Maemo 5 is designed to work with back backgrounds and black backgrounds only, there's no way for me to fix it, other than using a black background which I do not want. It's just the reality.

Edit:

Doesn't look half bad, or am I missing something here?

I am afraid, if the whole Maemo5 is designed to work with the black backgrounds only, then the only remaining option is to use a black background. Not doing it out of principle will do nothing to making your theme blend in with the actual applications.

Yea, BatteryGraph just looks a bit weird on the gray background, almost like there is something in the empty parts of the graph. Unfortunately, the Gallery, the Video Player, and anything that uses multicolumn lists are not blending in as well.

But maybe if people would like to have lighter themes also and designers will create lighter themes then just maybe the developers will code their apps correctly and make them a) follow themming completely or b) make their app use completely their own coloring instead of taking bits and pieces from theme?
