The GPS device itself is great, it locks quickly (when on a data network), and seems to be accurate.

However there is nothing for the N900 that even touches Google Maps for Android/iphoneOS. Ovi maps only locates about 60% of the businesses I search for, and the other 3rd party options (map buddy, etc) are equally as bad at finding POIs. Some argue that you can use maps.google.com in the N900 browser, but it's extremely clunky trying to use the 'pointer mode' in the N900 browser while on the go

yeah i know gps hardware on the N97 is absolutely crap, i dont know how drunk nokia people were when they decided to make the N97 theri flagship device but anyway im saying without network support if you just wanted to use the gps and punch in a bunch of coordinates and see what it told you and if it found the point you were looking for, would the N900 do it within a reasonable time? (not the couple of weeks or never the N97 takes)

hi there, I have been on the same boat as u, and guess where I ended :P .. HERE .. .. Its TOTALLY a personal choice.. U can watch millions of videos / reviews but what YOU want will not be there.. U have to try it yourself..
The GPS is good.. i used it a few times only one day and it locked really quickly...

It probably made it more user friendly, a few bug fixes etc.. but only the phone works in portrait.. There could be apps to do that, but its not in the stock OS.... I have seen an on-screen keyboard, but its no good to b honest..

thank you for the info
I have not used the Nexus one. i cant comment on that.. I have just started using the N900..
I personally find the non-portrait bit a bit annoying.. and the lack of call/end call buttons makes me think of getting a nexus sometimes later on..... but its still too early.. Ill have to get used to it for a bit...

have a look at the link below.. I talked in a bit more detail what I think of the phone.... good luck in choosing..... i know its hard .. lol

The non-portrait mode support REALLY sucks . . . I know that this is on an app by app basis but we should at least have portrait mode on ALL the stock app!!!!!!

What I don't get: why doesn't Nokia push more in advertising about the included 32GB? This is HUGE and worth a 100$ alone.

mrebanza,
Nice picture. I´m pretty sure that N900 supports 32 gb microsd even thought its not said in specs. There was none of 32 gb on market when N900 was released.

Hi, resurrecting this thread for two reasons: (1) Froyo was just released (at least a near final release candidate) and (2) I recently bought a Nexus One and flashed with Froyo and intend to use both the Nexus and my beloved N900 for a few weeks to determine if I want to keep one (or both perhaps).

I will post my experience once I've used the Nexus One w/ Froyo for another week or so. I'm interested if there are more recent experiences with the Nexus One, particularly with Froyo, among the N900 community here.

My key pain points with the N900 are around email - the incomplete Exchange implementation, laborious process to switch between mailboxes and the lag to do so are huge pain points for me in my life as a mobile professional. Thus the primary driver for evaluating the Nexus One, as I would prefer support for at least two multiple Exchange accounts, a more complete Exchange implementation and a generally better mail client (IMAP as well) than the N900 currently has.

First impressions with the Nexus One w/ Froyo are extremely favorable. Experience with a lot of phones over the years suggests first impressions can be misleading, so I'll reserve judgement for a while.

Suffice to say, my N900 first impressions (great) have proven out over time, which is rare for a phone. With the headline exception of email (and navigation, Ovi Maps 1.0 = yuck), I think that the errors on the N900 are largely errors of omission rather than comission - in that there is much missing functionality, but what is there works well (at least for me).

Sorry about long email.

Please share your Nexus One experiences, esp. with Froyo (2.2).

Ditto. My nexus should get here tomorrow I will use both for a few weeks and share.

It is my opinion that the N900 hardware is better, and the N900 running android would be the best of both worlds. Theoretically that is possible...

...someday...
