Looks like PR1.2 now follows the same questionable practice as other Nokia phones: if you have a duplicate contact, it will not show the name, even if the name and number are the same in the duplicate entries.
So, check if removing duplicates helps.

thanks for your tipp. Indeed, the problem occurs when a given number is in more than one contact. it happend to me as i put some numbers of my close family as ICE (in case of emergency) shortcut on the screen also and made a own contact named ICE...
hanks to your commend i could solve the problem, while i hope there will be a fixing soon.
When getting a call, performing a call or even writing/receiving a SMS the N900 does not show me the contact's name but only the number. However, it does not do it on all contacts but most of them.
Is there a solution?
